quite a noob here guys.
Looking at helmets and the full face ones are really catching my eye.

question is, should these helmets be for downhill riders only or should anyone who wishes to wear one be able to wear one peacefully ?

cheers guys

what sort of riding are you thinking of? Wear one can be absolutely horrible if breathing heavily at lower speeds, as you end up breathing your own 2nd hand air - obviously they get better as the speed picks up coming downhill

dont do it, hot, heavy, retricted breathing and you look like a douche unless ur going downhill

yup, as titusrider says it wont be a pleasant experience cracking out a 3hr ride in a full facer!

As above they get pretty uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. If you want full-face protection, you could get something like a Met Parachute though.

What they said, they really only work downhill. I have one for 'big stuff' but theres no way I could ride uphill in it, I'd die! Even flat/undualting singletrack is impossibly uncomfortable.

I bought it for a holliday in Spain, next year I'll just try and crash less.

i bought a Mace one - i can honestly say i feel a hell of alot safer with it on - i do fast xc downhill stuff - singletrack...came off a few times and the helmet worked a treat...Ok so they are not the best for climbing - so just take it off.... 😛

I'm pretty much a noob and have a normal and ff helmet.
The ff makes me feel a bit safer to be honest.

But

Having said that I went to llandegla at weekend ( my first time at a trails centre ) I was expecting it to be more dangerous than it was and had my ff on. I won't be doing it again. I like wearing it but you just get far to hot.
