Sorry, I know there are plenty of threads about full face fit already but I still can't quite decide.

I got a 7idp project 23 full face the other day and I'm trying to decide if it fits. The top is snug, the cheek pads feel tight, it doesn't jiggle or wiggle and generally feels very secure so I'm pretty certain I have the right size.

My uncertainty is because if I shove the chin bar towards my mouth I can just about make it contact my chin. Do I need something with a larger chin bar or is this going to happen with any helmet if you push hard enough? Do I just need to tighten the chin strap even more?

Hasn’t it got a tightener thing round the back of the head? That stops mine no moving around (Met Parachute)

No, the only way to fine tune fit is with different thickness pads (which I've done).

I'm happy with the way it fits my head, I'm more wondering if this particular helmet just has too short of a chin bar for my face shape or if this is normal.

What is moving to allow the chinbar to get to your face? I'm assuming its not flex, so the main part of the helmet is moving around your head in another way?

That's a great question. It comes away from the base of my skull and sort of rotates upward from the back, around the point where it contacts my forehead.

Maybe the chin strap needs to be tighter? Although it already feels quite tight.

Maybe the helmet doesn't actually fit well around the opening / base of skull area?

Maybe you have a chin like Jimmy Hill?

But seriously surely the strap under your neck should stop it rotating?

Don't the pads next to your cheeks stop that? Have you fitted the thicker versions of them?

Haha, now for 3 hours of looking in the mirror wondering if nobody ever mentioned it just to be kind...

Yeah it does to an extent, the tighter I pull it the less it rotates but I have to have it uncomfortably tight to make it impossible. I think probably I just need to find the point where the strap is okay feeling and it would take a really odd directional impact to make it rotate.

Yeah I'm running the thicker cheek pads and they're nice and snug but its the bit right at the front of my mouth / chin that contacts.

Honestly I think from this discussion the answer is that it actually fits fine I just need to make sure the chin strap is properly tightened.

I'm intrigued by this because I also have just purchased a 7idp 23 and was thinking exactly the same thing!

On my other FF, 661 something, any impact in the chin bar does indeed get transferred largely to the cheek pads.

But with the 23 there aren't really any corresponding pads and as the OP says it largely goes through the chinstrap. If you think about it it's not surprising. An impact from any other direction on the helmet results in that bit of the helmet pressing on that bit of the head....
But for the lower face, there is of course a great big gap and there isn't really anything to transfer the force to.

I came to the conclusion that there is nothing in that area of the head that I would like to absorb heavy impact, and at least the plastic chinbar would be more comfortable than a rock when it impacts my teeth/jaw/face.

Perhaps I have set the bar too low for my helmets but given the lengths I have to go to just to get them on my enormous head, I'm not so fussy about the little things.... 🙂

Iirc the cheek pads on the 23 don't extend very far forward at all.

Out of interest @thegeneralist which goggles are you using? I've got a set of 100% ones that are slightly too wide for the opening on the 7idp helmet so will be looking for a cheap replacement assuming the helmet stays.

Haha. Enduro enough for full face, not enduro enough for goggles is a fine balance.
