Looking for a cheap set of disk wheels and saw these, which for 90 quid after bc discount seem a good deal. The question is would they be OK for gravel use? 17mm internal as far as I can tell from a quick Google, and more of a roadie wheel. But cheap, so if fit for purpose may get them.
Any thoughts?
Are they the fulcrum with the dodgy bearings - might be worth doing a bit of a search. If they are they're not a bad wheel just budget in a bearing change.
The pair that came on my CX bike lasted a couple of months before the whole free hub ate itself. Not worth the hassle imo.
Hmm.. That's not very positive! Are they known to eat free hubs?
Also, I just realised the 2016 rim may not be 17mm, possibly only 15 which may not be suitable for 35mm tyres.
Nope.. Quick Google suggests 17mm for 2016 also.
Bit concerned about the longevity issues but they are cheap as chips
Fulcrum sports use a screw on freehub body much like Shimano do only they are very poorly sealed. The bearings in the hub only have a seal on the one side and are prone to water and dirt getting in there. I see a lot of fulcrum sport come through our workshop for the above reasons. They are a false economy. The 7's have the same bearings but at least the freehub is serviceable.
Thread hijack sorry, any idea if the fulcrum racing 4 DB suffer from the same hub bearing issues?
