I am looking for some cheapish new wheels for my Genesis Croix de Fer. To be used with both cx tyres and 28c road tyres.

I have found some Fulcrum red power xl wheels for about 160 notes. They have a 19mm internal rim width so i think they should be ok with the road tyres - am i right?

Has anyone got any experience with these wheels?

I've been looking for some factory built wheels for my Kona Dew -

Its surprisingly hard to find them with MTB style disc hubs, but nice light roadie 700c rims. These 29ers look like they might do the trick as the rims are nice and narrow.
My Dew is 135mm spacing usefully.

I can't advise specifically on the red power XL's but I have some Red Heats for DH duties and I have been less than impressed with them in terms of build quality. Hub bearings crumpled in less than 2 months and rear rim has cracked at the join.

On the plus side they are still running true.

Standard MTB hubs on the Genesis - disc brakes obviously and 700c.

I am really suprised there are such limited options specifically with road or cx rims to be honest. I could go custom build but would struggle to get something under £160.

I would also prefer sealed bearings personally as I find it far easier to replace them than faff around with Shimano loose balls. Never been happy with Shimano hubs (yes I know many have had other experiences).

I'm looking for an 29er wheelset for off road only for my Dirty Disco. I had a custom build on my croix de fer but was using that mostly for the road. Your right there is not much available as a factory build...best I found was the Easton Haven 29er on CRC. 50% off, but still pricey and Easton have a bad reputation for wheels. May have to save my pennies and go custom again. 🙁

Well, the Fulcrums look good, just not sure if I will get away with road tyres on them. 19mm internal bead width should be fine shouldn't it?

19mm will be fine! Think A23 rim and Hed Ardennes are 19mm are the are great with road tyres (23mm).

What you 'might' have a problem is diameter. The 29er rim we use (me and the Burd) on the crossers are really, really hard to get tyre on too!

Why not get a set built on A23/open pros on some cheap hubs?

Milleboy - cheers for that info.

The rims aren't tubeless so I am hoping it won't be too hard - that said I had some 700c WTB ones on a Kona Dew Deluxe which were next to useless as they were so tight, so that issue isn't confined to 29er rims.

Cheap hubs are the issue I have currently. The Deore ones which came on the bike have always been an issue and after several thousand miles and constant tweaking and attempted servicing I have had enough tbh.

Did you end up getting these? How did you get on if so?
