Afternoon all, 12 months ago I got myself a calibre bossnut evo to get into trail riding on a FS, really enjoy it so looking for opinions please...

I like the look of this Stumpjumper ST
https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Specialized-Stumpjumper-ST-Alloy-29er-Mountain-Bike-2019-Full-Suspension-MTB_123914.htm

It’s £1800, but would I notice a difference between this and the evo? Is it worth upgrading to a stumpy as a ‘proper’ mtb?

Thanks in advance

What is the evo missing?

What's lacking with the Bossnut, do you reckon?

Edit: just beaten to the punch. But it's a good question so let's just pose it twice.

They basically have the same fork, right? I would be more inclined to upgrade the fork to something better and fit a dropper post if you don't have one already.

Good points about the evo, it’s a great bike, but I was wondering if the SJ would be a better ride- lighter, more ‘established’ - but if they are similar then no problem.

You'd be able to a bottle on it, other than that I think they'd be largely similar.

Something like this would be a great ride if you really wanted to spend your £1800

I've had a Radon Swoop before and it was a great bike.

I wouldn’t be putting my £1800 into that Specialized as an upgrade on the evo you have already.

Main differences seem to be 29er vs 650b and 4 bar suspension vs linkage controlled single pivot. So the Specialized rear suspension maybe a little bit plusher / more active but that’s it.

What do you want better than the Evo - if it’s lighter you probably need to spend a chunk more on a new purchase.

If you want better components and more capable suspension I’d be tempted with a Vitus Escarpe for £1999:

However, if you do a lot of very pedally cross country type stuff this won’t be an upgrade. If you tend to winch to the top of stuff and just hurl yourself down then it would be a good upgrade. You get a wider gear range, stiffer forks with a much better damper, better brakes etc

Have a Bossnut V2 (and other mountainbikes).
The Bossnut is a "proper mtb"....!

Bit heavy. Beside that nothing wrong with it.

You'd have to go for something like the Vitus above to get something better than your current bike.

The forks are probably the weakest point on the Bossnut, but there are some bargains out there - I think Manitou Mattocs can be had for sensible money, especially as they'd be non-boost, and the decent models have a great damper and would be much stiffer than your current forks.
