[Closed] FS Frame respray - where?

Cutting a long story short, but the paint on my Transition Spur is defective and Transition don't have any frames available until next year to replace it under warranty. Instead, they've offered for me to get a quote to have it stripped/resprayed and they would see what they could cover towards the cost of it. Fatcreations aside, where else can folks recommend to get a carbon FS frame stripped & resprayed, ideally in a timely manner if at all possible?!

Sorry I can't suggest any painters, but I'd wait until next year and get the benefit of a new frame after a year more riding.

Free bearing swap and maybe a nice new colour. Might even be an updated geometry by then.

JMJ Designs, based in Cornwall is definitely worth a shout.

I came here to say JMJ too. He usually has quite a long waiting list though.

Snap to Chakaping, I'd ride it for another years worth and then get the free new frame. You might even fancy a change when the warranty replacement comes and sell it as new.

I think if it’s just a bit of non ideal paint finish and Transition will replace when a frame is available I’d just do that.

However if you want a quote you could try Bristol Bike Restorations. I’ve been happy with the paint finish he did on my Marino when he laid down heavy metal flake for me before a Candy blue top coat and millions of layers of lacquer to smooth out the metalflake finish.

He’s also regularly painting full suspension frames and sorting out bad paint from dodgy paint jobs done in other places. Josh is also a nice lad for what it’s worth!

What sort of prices do these people charge? Any ballpark figures? Always wondered when you see these top end jobs.

Another vote for JMJ.

He starts at £500 for 2 colours (main and contrasting logos), only limit is your imagination.

Long wait though.

Going rate starts at £500 around here too (PAINT | Meteor Works) , but

Cutting a long story short

Why? I'm intrigued as to what kind of defect can be so severe you want the frame replaced yet can make it through QC and the dealer PDI?

My metalflake paint job on the hardtail ended up about £300 I think. If I’d just gone standard Candy it would have been cheaper - but it added loads of work to the paint job.

I assume full suss frames will cost more due to all the seperate parts. I also provided a bare metal frame so the preparation would have been easy on mine.

I paid £300 on top of the price for standard paint on my Shand.  That includes the custom graphics

@onewheelgoood, basically the paint has started to bubble in numerous areas along the top tube and down tube. They're very small bubbles, but they are visible under the frame wrap. It's actually the second time it's happened, first time round I hadn't had the frame wrapped and it was worse than it is now and the frame was replaced under warranty then (February last year). Transition and Windwave have been really good about it to be fair, the question has been asked about waiting for a new frame, just waiting to hear back as this would be preferable, just wanted to research all avenues as I adore the bike, just a shame the paint is a bit questionable!

Bristol Bike restorations are good (a few friends have had things done). Argos Bikes in Bristol used to do some (they did the Team MBuK years ago).

But I’d just live with the bubbling paint and get a new frame when one comes available if it was me.

"I also provided a bare metal frame so the preparation would have been easy on mine."

repainting carbon frames is a lot dearer as the final stage of stripping the existing paint back to bare carbon requires a lot of time and elbow grease. they can't really be sandblasted or whatever they do with metal frames.
