So, I've had these fellas in the freezer overnight.

And after advice here I bought one of these:

It took about 2 minutes and a wipe of copperslip to press them in. Right first time, no faff.

A perfect start to the build.

Doesn't everyone do this?
Nope...
No. Clean the frame out if it needs it, squidge of oil, one cup in square using the vice and the other one in after the other one. Easy, no pissing about freezing shit and the bike's built 24 hours earlier 😆
Red wine and forgiving steel frames were involved in this post.
edit- I do freeze motorcycle head and wheel bearings though.
A few hours for the cups in the freezer, a wipe of grease and 10 seconds of the mallet sorted a headset earlier this week for me. Didn't want to be splashing out on a tool I'd only use once, got to admit that I was holding my breath while wacking it though. Freezing definitely helps.
I've only resorted to freezing them if they prove to be difficult, haven't found a difficult one since the days of straight steerers 8)
On a similar vein, I was told a nifty trick for changing the bearings on a Hope BB:
Boil a kettle.
Put boiling water in a mug.
Place the BB cup inside the mug with the bearing facing down and wait a few seconds.
The bearing should drop to the bottom of the mug.
Remove the cup with a piece of wire or some similar fishing tool.
Turn it over so the external side is facing up.
Drop new bearing in (pre-prepared with a smear of grease).
Let it cool for a few minutes then reinstall in bike.
Repeat for the other BB cup.
Takes all of 30 seconds once the water has boiled 😀
^^That's a good tip that is^^
10. Make tea
Surely you need to dry the cup to ensure there is no moisture present?
The heat means it steams off by the time you get the new bearing in 8)
You sure? I've messed about with steam when I was younger...moisture always remained...
