OK, so I've entered the Frontier 300 for next year, its a 300k gravel race from the west coast of Scotland to the east coast of England with a 50/50 mix of gravel/ forest roads and tarmac, with a bit of off roading in places.

I'm just wondering what tubeless tyres to go for? I'll invariably be using my CX bike with bigger tyres, the absolute max I can fit in the rear is a 40c Vittoria Terreno Wet and thats with heli-tape on the chainstays just in case as its very close.

I'm leaning towards a set of Terreno Zero or Dry, any advice would be great.

I think the issue here is the course is still a big unknown. It’s it Keilder gravel or MTB lite gravel! Do you give up grip for speed on the road or vice versa.....that’s not helped....has it...

Eh Gravel Kings seem to be the go to tyre for many as an all rounder!

Sampled a lot of the route last year as part of an industry pre-ride type affair. The route consists of a lot of Keilder style gravel fire roads and quiet country lanes. My bike had Teravail Ramparts - a fat slick which was fine but I'd prefer something semi-slick or file tread such as a Cannonball or the new Washburn.

If it’s dry, even just on the top then the zero are quite a nice volume tyre but the dry are a lower resistance tyre and ultimately more grip.

My intention is to fit a new pair of conti terra speeds for the event, they’re short lived but are grippy and fast rolling

for me its 50/50 between WTB Ventura which are not the toughest tyre but roll quite well or Teravail Rutland which dont roll as fast but have much more grip and puncture protection.

ive just removed some G-One Ultra Bite's....maximum grip and rolling resistance.

all these are 700x50 ish...im shooting for comfort

I like the look of those Teravails. I was thinking about trying the Goodyear County as they look fairly slick.

I've recently fitted Hutchinson Toureg tyres to my gravel bike, somewhere between small knobblies and a file tread. Cheapish, tough, roll well, great grip on dry trails & gravel.

I've just bought some conti race kings 650 x 2.0, maybe I'll use these till about may time and change them for something that rolls better then 🤔

Not sure if this is a bad approach or not but I'll just be using whatever tyres happen to be on the wheels at the time. Likely to be the Conti Race King on the front and Schwalbe Smart Sam on the back that are currently on the bike.
