On the new Zwift bike it has 3*10 when I get the right hand shifter.

However I only have a 2 speed left shifter for front mech. Will that work ok? Assuming I use the +- screws, I only want outer and middle rings.

Next question which may decide the plans anyway, can I run a SRAM shifter and Shimano mech? I know the complexity of it with rears, but don't know if fronts have the same actuation?

First question— Yes, just adjust the limit screws, one of my bikes has been like this for years
Second question— No idea but I think this should work, as you say it is only the rear setup that has cable pull issues

Thanks mate.

I'm pretty sure I have an X5 shifter in spares should I need it, but means the faff of getting the height correct as it's not direct mount. So if I can use the mech that's on there it'll save me a bit of messing.

I 'think' this should be fine as the throw of a 2 speed is 2/3rd that of a 3 speed.
Probably..

It may or may not work.

If it's a road 2x it should be fine as road runs mid to outer, if it's MTB it won't be great as they run inner to middle, the throw is different between the two. Something says this may have changed at some point though, probably when MTB got dedicated 2x cranksets but don't hold me to that. I ran a road 2x using a triple brifter set up the wrong way and it always needed an extra nudge to get up.

Road and MTB triples run the same throw regardless of brand.

Is it definitely a 2x shifter. I thought there were someade for a while that could do either by flipping a switch.

Yeah I'm aware of switchable ones, but this isn't one sadly.

It'll be fine as once you get it sorted, you'll leave it i the big ring anyway...:-)

Well we got there,

I ordered a SRAM X7 10sp shifter which arrived and a 10sp chain. Both went on without issue.

I used a 2 speed front shifter for the rings, which does mean i don't have the granny ring, but there's no way i'll need a 24T ring anyhow, so not an issue.

The only minor complications were getting the tension on the front mech so it's not using the small ring, just needed my lad to help me there with an extra hand.
Lastly was chain length, with the standard cassette being a 28 cog biggest and this one being MTB and a 36, i needed to add in a couple of chain links, which wasn't an issue. Just needed a 2nd quick link in there.... But it's all done and smooth as silk.

Can't ride for another 7-10 days so won't bother setting lever positions etc just yet or bar angle, but will get them done before jumping on it.

Slightly excessive i agree the way i've done it, but it only cost me £23 to change all the bits and make it right, so no biggy there.
