Got a single ring commute/urban bike with no cable stop for a front mech and would like a 2 ring option. Possible? How?
Full length cable to a side-swing mech. Run the cable down the downtube and use the bottle mount points to secure it.

SJS cycles sell a range of bolt on cable stops, Origin-8 I think.
Or clamp on guides, they used to make them for V-brakes etc. Chain device mounts like DMR used could also be modded to do the job.
Or you can get top pull mechs that have the stop built in. Not sure of all the part codes but the FD M785 is a low mount 2x10 with a stop built in.
I bought a clamp on cable stop from SJS for my Swift; it's been flawless.
You can also buy clamp on Direct Mount adapters (the cable stop is then built into the front mech.
E type bottom bracket mounting front mech with cable stop?
Does the back wheel have the clearance to miss a chain ring bigger than 32t?
Easily - 44t in middle position at the moment
First answer is the best answer.
I got a bolt on clamp so i could run a double up front on a frame designed for x1. It means i can now fit a mech. it was a 'problem solvers' one.

This is much better than messing around trying to fit cable stops. You just run a continuous cable outer from the shifter to the mech. Dead easy.
