Having recently built up a Gorilla Monsoon drop bar mtb i initially set up 1x11 with slx chainset, xt rear mech (using a shiftmate 8 to adjust the pull ratio) and 5800 105 shifters but need more range. Ive managed to pick up a 42/30 xtr chainset so need to add a front mech but unsure whether i need a 105 or xtr front mech or something else. Any ideas or experience would be gratefully received. done a few road shifter / mtb crankset builds and my rule of thumb is match the front shifter to the chainset - depends if you've anything in the spares box but reckon any shimano mtb front mech would be my first try.....if you've got the 105 front mech I'd give it a go seen a few set ups where owners claimed worked ok seem pretty versatile
