The front mech on my Scott CR1 road bike is coming away from the frame, it’s held in place by rivets which have clearly failed. My mate says to drill through and bolt it in place, but I’ve seen alloy clamps are available, question is it safe to drill it, or would the clamp be a better option, or is it just knackered?

A photo would be helpful, I'm guessing this isn't the mech itself but a "braze on" that is failing.

If it comes off completely you might be able to use a band on to braze on converter like this https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/gear-spares/1-14-problem-solvers-brazeon-adaptor/ .

It might not work if your frames seat tube isn't round or the right diameter.

Best option is probably to get it re-riveted on.

Cheers bikesandboats, I’d do a pic, but it would mean moving the cars that are in front of the garage and then unlocking the Gordion knot of chains bolting all the bikes to the floor.
I’ve seen similar clamps to your suggestion and I suspect that may be my best option given that if this rivets failed there’s every chance a replacement will too.
