Fork in question is a 2012 Reba RL. It's about 6 months old and I reckon is definitely in need of a lower strip and relube - but not sure on the uppers?
Is it worth doing them both together when it's still quite new (probably seen a good 50 hours use) or just do lowers.
I was going to do them both but considering it's £30 for a 500ml each of 5wt and 15wt oil (of which i'd need a a bit of 5wt and only a splash of 15wt..) I can get my hands on a TF tuned refresh kit for that, just use a bit of the lower lube mix to clean and sort the lowers and save the rest for the next service and do both upper and lower then?
nick - ime: get used to doing lowers services yourself. I just needs the oils. Once you've the lowers off it's easy to see if there are any other problems that need seals etc.
The only thing is where did you get those prices from? CRC do oils for about £7 per 0.5 litre (even that's expensive). A pair of 5/15 wt should do you a LOT of years.
Yeah I was looking around and most places were about £15 a bottle by the time post was factored in for mtb oil or fully synth fork oil - ended up finding rock oil from CRC - £12 for both job done so ordered that.
Found the CRC oil after posting the topic but thanks for the reply anyway, as it was cheap i'll change the oil in the damper at the same time. Was just being a bit tight when faced with spending £30 or so.... 😉
nick - honestly - dont change the damper oil unless you have to for some reason (usually due to leaks from damper into the lowers). Change / service the lowers frequently / as often as you can.
