I have purchased a front derailleur with a bottom bracket mount (e-type) but it does not clear my 48tooth chain ring.
Can I just get a diffrent bracket from some where? If so where?
Thanks for any help.
T,
The e-type mechs are specific for the groupset.
Yours is probably made for a 44T ring and will not work well with a 42T.
The height is not adjustable and there are no options on the bracket.
Can you send it back and swap for a top-swing or conventional version?

Thanks for the response, I have the xt M770 crank but the large ring has 48 teeth not 44. The derailleur is also from the M770 range but looks to only come with the clearance for the 44 teeth size. As the e-type comes in two parts I was hoping that I could just purchase a larger bracket. But looks like the only option would be to make one 🙁
T,
I have researched this further.
You have an FD-M770-E top-swing BB mount mech.
This is for the FC-M770 crankset with 44-32-22 rings.
You also have FC-M771-K crankset with 48-36-26 rings, which Shimano sell under the XT-for-Trekking category (different brochure to Mountain kit in 2010).
Quite simply, you are correct that there is no BB mount mech for the trekking crankset, so either get 44 and 32 rings (you will need both or it simply will not work) or a new FD-772A or FD-M773 front mech.
Sorry.

Is it a top swing XT 770 e-type mech?
Edit: I meant Top Swing XT 770-e type mech? If so, I too had researched a little further and discovered that it is not a match with the 48t chainring. You could just sell the 48t ring and purchase a 44t chainring? (I did this and kept the 36t Middle ring, I felt it was a good combination, i.e. 26-36-44)
e-type are all top-swing.

sorry yes your right its the M771 not M770, thanks for your help. Looks like I may be making one then 🙂
Thanks again.
