Might have Friday off and head to the Lakes to make the most of the weather.

Anyone got any suggestions what to ride?

Anyone want to come along so I don't fallback on the " well I'd do it easy if there was just someone with me to phone MR" excuse.🤔

Possible options:
Langstrath, Ore Gap, have a gander at/on Great Slab then Styhead, Stockley Bridge.

Rigg Beck, Barrow and some other stuff round Newlands.

Perhaps Sticks into Seldom Seen

Tragically enough, that's all I can currently think of.

Would love to look at Nan Beild North, but think it's probably too hard for me.
Could do Gatesgarth over Harter Fell then down Nan Beild South, but guessing the runout will be boggy as.

Could go and take another look at Grisedale Pike, but with fresh legs.

Anyone got any other novel suggestions?

Lonscales terrace to field studies centre then traverse of Blencathra west to east. Skiddaw/Ullock. Wythburn car park ride / push up the beck to Grisedale tarn and down to Patterdale, back up Keppel zig zags and over helvellyn summit and descend BW to wythburn. Scar crags from stonycroft and down Causey east ridge (care at top). Whiteless/ rannerdale returning Gasgale gill and Grisedale pike.

Sounds interesting. Never been up Blencathra. Is Lonsales terrace otherwise known as Glenderaterra? Then up from the Blencathra Centre. Down Scales Fell to Scales I guess?

Top plan. Like.

( out of interest, what's it like East to West?)

Just trying to work out the others.

Wythburn car park ride / push up the beck to Grisedale tarn and down to Patterdale, back up Keppel zig zags and over helvellyn summit and descend BW to wythburn

Aha Birkside. Did that last year via Coach Road, Dodds, Sticks East, Keppel, Summit, Birkside - loved it. Might see if I can piece together something with Grisedale tarn. Been over 25 years since I rode that ( pushed would probably be more accurate description)

Scar crags from stonycroft and down Causey east ridge

Gotcha, found it. Near Rigg Beck by the look of it. Looks good.

Whiteless/ rannerdale returning Gasgale gill and Grisedale pike

Yep, did that a couple of months ago with @continuity. Awesome ride.

Ditto Ullock. Did that in autumn along with Skiddaw House and Mungrisdale. Loved it.

Awesome suggestions. Many thanks.

I'm glad someone can work out from descriptions where on earth people mean!

Easiest way up Blencathra is Blease fell, and this also means it’s a bit dull in descent, so west to east better. In descent, down scales fell to the top of mousethwaite comb then down to the road from there is best. Some people have ridden doddick fell, doesn’t appeal to me. Another alternative descent is atkinson pike/foule crag to the source of the glenderamackin then down the path in river left to the bridge before up and over mousethwaite comb.

Hi @TomB

Scar crags from stonycroft and down Causey east ridge (care at top).

Can I clarify. Do you mean up Stonycroft Gill to High Moss then to the col between Sail and Scar Crags?

Then east to Causey Pike. The path splits at Sleet Hause.... keep on the ridge to Rowling End or drop left towards the Gill again?

Thanks

I wouldn’t ride Rowling end- very steep and narrow/scrambly but there may be riding gods that do. Turn left where the ridge flattens and head down a loose and fast set of turns to a yeeha down to the road on the main track (with consideration for walkers etc…).

Oh, and it wants to be nice and dry for the top section of that ridge to be fun- if it’s still damp save it for another day.

Phew, thanks for the reply. I was thinking it looks stupidly steep. Shit, just calced it on OSApp... 46% . Ha ha ha. That would have been seriously messy.

Brilliant suggestion Tom, many thanks.

Nice to do a big Lakes hill without any HaB ( still loads of pushing but easy pushing)

Coffee and Cake in the perennial closing town hall cafe in Threlkeld.

Where I stupidly took pity on some roadie who had arrived too late even for cake. Told him he could have my ginger cake if he wanted it. Grabbed it and wandered off without so much as a thank you very much! He seemed to think it was his due since he had to get over Whinlatter back to Buttermere - most puzzling.

Then I nipped up Barrow just because it would have been rude not to. What an utterly perfect little hill. Almost all rideable up and some lovely rocky slabs along the top.

Looks like it might be Great End etc if Mark gets his bike built tonight.
Actually it'll be Great End regardless of whether Mark etc.... just won't be any inspiring awesomeness for me to watch.

Happy days
