@Mowgli how on earth did you find the trig point/cairn so empty. When I was last there in October it was so busy I couldn't even get up there on foot

The first Cotic I rode was the Orange Mk3 Soul demo bike from the Soul Brothers video back in 2012. Enjoyed it but it felt a bit small so bought & built a large black one, here pictured in 2014:
[img] [/img]

So, in 2013 I was after a full suss so demo'ed the 26" Rocket pictured below. Really liked the frame and ordered one, however it never materialised due to the attempted move to UK manufacturing 🙁
On the bright side, was good to still see the old frame still going strong on the Cotic social recently 🙂
[img] [/img]

Fast forward to 2015 and I was '29er curious'. Having ridden a few but not feeling totally at home on one, I got an e-mail from Cy about an upcoming demo day. Tried a Solaris and loved it, so sold my Soul frame to a member of this parish (was hoping to see it in this thread) to build this:
[img] [/img]
I must say it's the most versatile bike I've ever ridden, especially in 650b+ flavour, I've used it for everything from all day epics in the lakes to a 60 mile gravel race in the states to our usual Wednesday night blast. It is definitely a keeper this one 🙂

Finally, after the whole 650b thing happened and falling out with my other full suss, after demoing a Flare and Rocket275, I've recently got round to building this:

Already posted one photo on Saturday but here's one I took on Sunday of my bfe next to a feature at some fine Northumberland woodland.
It's actually making me a better rider.

Taking the Soul to it's homeland.
[img] [/img]

I just remembered actually I bought the frame from the STW Classifieds years ago, from a guy who lived near Cannock, Hednesford I think. He said it was sent as a replacement for an in warranty broken soda. Can't remember his name or forum handle.
I Love this bike and I will never sell it.

Missed this thread as I've been away since Friday riding my BFe in North Wales!

Had it since 2011, and since then it's more or less been my only MTB. Covered thousands of miles (Strava alone says 5000+), ridden coast to coast, visited Vancouver island and the North Shore, trips to the alps, uplift days, 60+ mile days in the peak, commuted, raced 12 hour endurance, DH and Enduro and is still going strong. Love this thing to bits (literally), if the Swiss Army ever needed a bike, this is the one. I just wish it had a bigger head tube to open up some fork options.

OH, and I also have an Escapade! #fanboi

Please still keep them coming. So pleased I started this thread.

So much so I've just treated my Solaris to a little bit more Hope kit in the shape of some F20 pedals!

I'm on my fourth Cotic, first came a mk2 Soul to replace my Genesis Core frame, loved it, so got a mk3 frame to facilitate tapered forks and a dropper as I thought it'd stay forever. Cost me nothing to change to the mk3, one off here, one pinkbike, sold the mk2 on. mk2 was black, mk3 green.

Then I decided I wanted a full sus, so sold my soul frame and built a zesty up, keeping my On One Scandal as only hardtail. A few months later that got a frame swap for a mk2 solaris, in orange.

I then basically decided I don't like 29ers on tech/steep stuff, so I got rid, and now, have a lovely orange Soul275:

On it's first decent ride here, a 30 mile meander through Radnorshire hills, old Rough Ride territory.

This one's a keeper, though I wouldn't mind a Flare to go with it.....

One week on and I'm fully bonded with my week old flare, over 100 miles of singletrack and twisty forest switchbacks and I'm getting faster still 🙂

Cotic Number Three was just finished, a New Solaris in gloss gunmetal with orange Hope bits to pimp it slightly. So far it's gone to the end of the drive and back, hope to get a coast-to-coast (all 11 miles of it) in this weekend to check I screwed everything down.

My escapade. Tested a lot of similar bikes at the time but this one felt the best. Really good to ride both off and on road.

My utilitarian Roadrat. Does the station commute brilliantly although a much shorter stem has been fitted since this pic and the bar ends have gone.

Going to 1x it sometime though as the Alfine is just so damn heavy!

Its my 3rd Cotic. Had a mk2 Soul and one of the very first Roadrats about 8 years ago...

Here's my Mk2 Soul on a misty traverse across to Cragg Quarry earlier in the year:

[img] [/img]

For all that the wheels are too small, the travel too short, the steerer too straight, etc, etc, it's a totally awesome bike and I love it 🙂

Finally finished, bought the frame in the yellow sale. still playing around with the bars flat or low rise.

loving it so far, the one thing is mudguards, i like the clean look of the bike and I'm loathed to chuck a load of scaffolding on it, any stealth options out there?

Is the Solaris a big Soul? My old 456 hasn't turned a wheel since i got the RocketMax and i think it has a touch of wheel envy. I think a 29 hardtail would do me rightly (and mean i'll have the option of swapping wheels/tyres if something unfortunate happens). Sadly yours is too small Mr d0g.

Speaking of the Max, i can't be the only chap to have one can i??? I'm posting another pic then. Up the Big Rockets! 😀

One down (Flare went yesterday), one to go (still waiting for payment for the BFe frame (XS, green, in case anyone else wants it?)).

I'm keeping the Soul though and I've put the plus wheels that were in the Flare in it - they juuuuuuust fit - I've got some other wheels with 26 x 2.3 semi-slick tyres and a pair of 700c wheels that go in ok as well. They're dead easy to swap over cos it's singlespeed and they're all on the same make hubs 😀 Down to one bike again! Huzzah! Stop buying shit and clogging the place up!

@Euro I think that's the rough marker. Solaris is the 29 Soul qnd tje BFe is the tougher built Soul.

No just normal sized (6'5")

Cheers Jamba, that's kinda what i was thinking/hoping. And seeing Ryu's delightful Solaris is deffo helping me make my mind up. A set of interchangable +wheels would be just the ticket.

I must say that black and orange Solaris looks great.

In other news, my Hope f20's have arrived and are fitted so hopefully tomorrow will mean a Friday Cotic ride to try them out!

Ok, I'm bored, it's a cotic thread so WTF heres a Cotic timeline.

Part 1: The Soul

It all started with/like this:

Cotic 008 by Sofaboy TT, on Flickr

It then got, er, a couple of upgrades:

The Cotic - final guise for now

To be honest, I didn't think Pikes were matched to the Soul. So I got some TALAS to try (oh, and wider bars and shorter stem...):

Soul Oct 09

And it finally ended up like this:

Soul G1

It's now been 'donated' to the Loon as he needed a bike and I needed the space... 😳

Part 2: Soda

I liked the Soul so much I just *had* to get a Soda:

Soda G2

Heres a photo 'in the wild':

What are they doing?

Turns out I didn't really like ti after all and it got punted on.

Part 3: Solaris

It started off in orange:

Singletrack Fungle

Think that even photo even got a mention on Cotic's twitter account or something.

But it had to be that green. Cy relented under intense pressure to get a half consignment in it so I had it buy after that (thanks Cy)

It got built up like this:

Finished (and post ride)

It's had some luggage:

Packed up again, ready to go at 9.00 am sharp...

And some bigger boots:

Part 4: The Rocket

I got a demo bike shipped up north and took it over my favourite route (up the Firmounth/down the Fungle):

Rocket @Fungle

I wrote it up on here and unleashed a shitstorm about steel framed FS...

And I bought one of my own as a result:

Rocket_0192

Took it out to GT (another that featured on the Cotic feed...):

Pre-puncture. Larsens no use for the sharp loose stuff (schoolboy error I'm afraid)

But I hit a slump bike wise and it got moved on (to fund the deposit on a new motorbike... 🙄 ).

Loving the thread. Have a rocket max and it is the dogs wotsits.

Just got a Solaris max frame (xl) has anyone had issues with clearance of break leavers/shifters on the top tube?

Running two spacers but they're hitting the top tube

Part 5: The SolarisMAX:

The green Solaris is a medium. Which is great for 2-3 hour jaunts but at 6' I found to get the right reach I had to push the seat back and this made the front really light on really steep stuff and in truth it was a little short for all day trips.

So I got a SolarisMAX in large. Being the first built B+ out the door of Cotic it made their front page:

Only for me to get it and stick a lovely white saddle, barend grips ( 😯 ) and luggage strapped to it then ridden for hours on end and left out in the open while I snuggled down into my tent or bivy bag...

Hi five fellow RocketMax owner. Dog bits indeed 😀

Low 5 for top tube clearance on the Solari though. Have the same issue on my Large (20") 456. As many spacers as would fit under the stem didn't cut it so higher rise bars (think they're 38?) and levers more horizontal than needed and helped. Still fouls a tad but not enough to do any damage. Pain in the arse not having that space when riding tough. Tall top tubes are shite on a mtb!

Well it's Friday again and I've been enjoying my 2 week old flare more with every ride. It's perfectly suited to what I mainly ride - forest trails with tight switchbacks etc... I'd spent years in retromtb land thoughrougly enjoying 26" wheels and skinny tyres and prior to this bike didn't really get on with my Curtis 29er so the flare 'lite' was the obvious choice despite considering all the other 'flavours'.
This time last year I owned 8-10 bikes, now I have only this and I don't think I can say anymore than that....

Thanks peeps for the thumbs up on my bikes its nice to see I'm not the only one with a bit of a cotic addiction!
After having a few bfe's in various colours I thought I had built my perfect pair of bikes with the escapade and a rather nicely specced rocket ... well that was until they released the solaris max and then metalheart ordered his and cotic posted pics of it on social media ..damn you lol
I'm now the 6th person in my group of riding buddies to own a Solaris all built up in very different ways, it just shows you how versatile the frame is.
Mine with the plus tyres is a bit of a hooligan of a bike and after seeing Kayla could fit 26x2.8's in the back of her flare I'm getting another wheelset made up for my rocket to make a mini-max rocket ,hopefully will have it sorted by the middle of next week and will post some pics up when it's done 😀

If it makes you feel any better about things your Escapade build is making me twitchy... If I hadn't just donated the Soul and sold my TCX due to space limitations I might have pressed the buy button on one now... Cy.... 😉

I'm off up to the Cotic demo at Dalby tomorrow to try out some of the bouncy bikes, as I've been pretty much a die hard-tailer for the last 10 years......wife is hoping I don't like them too much 😈

Anyone else going?

@kayla very nice, the red is really lovely.

So 26+ means the biggest bounciest tyres you can fit into a BFe 275 ?

That looks bitchin' with the CCDB Coil. Think you made the correct choice there.

I think so although I don't have any 650B wheels to try in it! They're the wheels with 2.8 Rangers I used in my Flare. You might be able to squeak a 26 x 3.0 without a chain device though.

I really don't need another bike, this is my only one at the minute after stripping my Soul 26 to build it and selling some other stuff and I know I prefer HTs, but I'm having impure thoughts involving a matt green Rocket with 26+ wheels and black bits and maybe purple pedals with a small Hulk sticker in place of the headtube badge... Hulk smash!

Going to run it and and see what I think. The build isn't light weight anyway so what's a little more going to matter :).

Kayla. Cool looking BFe.

Can't resist adding to the mashed-up 26+ Cotic party, so here's my Rocket+ earlier.

I'm in the market to replace my ageing Heckler. I like the idea of a RocketMax. How do you owners think it would stand up as my new Alps bike?

Had my Rocket (in standard 27.5 guise) out in Chamonix last summer. The bike lapped it up, so I'd guess a RocketMax would be even more effective.

Cheers. Less orange now than it had - with the standard 27.5 wheels in there it has orange hubs and nipples too.

I likes a bit of colour coordination...
