Looking for some additional options to add on to our Tignes trip this summer. Looking for interesting trails preferably lift served perhaps with some pedalling. Loved the enduro routes in tignes.

Is there a decent* guidebook that anyone can recommend?

*ie not the Mallet one

This is my starting guidebook these days

https://www.trailforks.com/region/tignes/

Stuff evolves fast at times, if you download France region to your phone all the trails in there will be at your fingertips

What's wrong with the Mallet one?

Sorry. Dismally slow response as I was trying (and failing) to find the bits of the mallet book that I object to.

It's ok as a coffee table book or for inspiration but is actually very weak as a guidebook. Ok I may have been spoiled by climbing and kayaking guides....

It just doesn't give enough info on how to find and navigate the best trails. But the bit that really grinds my piss is the "locals insider tips " section or whatever it's called. On far too many of the sections the insider tip is something like:

Bob from local mtb guide Bobsbiking.com says that the trails here are varied, mixed and hard to find, so your best bet is to hire a local guide.

Really. Wasting space in something that's supposed to be a guidebook by admitting that actually the guidebook isn't up to much and you'd be better off paying our mate hundreds of quid to guide you around is frankly taking the piss.

Also, any views on Sketchy Dismount at les Arcs?  Is it an option for competent kids or are there genuine YFYD sections?

Any other suggestions for good trails with a bit less of a gravity focus?  Still lift assisted but just not so steep short and quick

Cheers

Some interesting stuff on this thread about guides, in particular from freeride-addict

https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/les-arc-2010/page/2/

Dont agree with everything he says, but he says it well generally.  One bit that caught my eye in particular:

For about the price of a meal & drinks out in a mid range resteraunt

I'd always assumed guides cost around the same as mountain guides or ski guides, ie around 300-500 Euros per day, but this suggests I'm wrong (or that freeride eats in some ridiculously expensive restaurants 😉

Which is it?

Also, the other problem is that I'm not looking to pay to put one fat IT middle manager on a guided day, I'm looking to put that FITMM, his missus and two kids.  So it's not going to be any cheaper joining a group.

OOPS

Found some info about Sketchy Dismount:

3) La varda / sketchy dismount. That'll be this one then….

You would be an absolute idiot to ride this on your own or in fact with ANYONE except trailAddiction or bikevillage. Basically, chance of death or serious **** up = off the scale. This is proper, PROPER alpine stuff.

La Varda was just insane – you just can't describe the feeling of riding such technical trails within 6" of a massive drop

La Varda messed with my head. I was more drained mentally than physically when I reached the bottom. Never ridden a trail that required so much concentration.

Looks like YFYD to me

Maybe not with the family
