So, I couldn't find a review for Freeze components grips but they looked really cool so I thought I'd take a punt. Wish I hadn't. Absolutely dreadful - I guess there's a very good reason most MTB grips are bolt-on these days.

Yes, the Freeze Grips look the mutt's nuts at first but that's where the good stuff ends. They aren't firm on your bars - even with the old hairspray trick the furthest end always has a fair bit of wobble on it.

One weekend of riding some rough Welsh off-piste and that twisting ruined the sticker underneath so they don't even look cool anymore. Laying the bike down on the fireroad put a hole in the rubber end cap.

All in all - don't do it to yourself.

Never heard of them - just looked on their website - they've taken the design of hosepipe fittings and applied it to grips... hmm.

But they do say "The best thing about the Frozen Twist Clamp is the transparent look". so, I woulda been oot anyway 😀

Yeah, I thought the transparent look was pretty cool and it kinda is, but it just doesn't work well.

I think anyone who rode bikes in the 90s can attest that transparent grips look cool for about 10 minutes. Irrespective of whether they move or not they just look filthy really quick.

I feel like a set of clear BMX grips and stickers underneath (+hairspray) would achieve the same effect cheaper and more firmly.

The concept isn't a terrible one, an easier to fit/remove Lock-on of sorts, the whole transparent appearance would always be secondary to me, it would make sense if they just offered solid colours with that fitting method. what really doesn't work for me though is the price...

Yeah the price was really steep for grips I effectively rode once and now absolutely do not want on my bike. This was an impulse control issue tbh - I liked the look and didn't think much past that.

I never had transparent grips in the 90s Ben - but I figured that with all the improvements in technology over the last 20-30 years they'd have held up a bit better than they did.
