Hello

My friend is looking at purchasing a Freestyle BMX for his 14yr old son.

I don’t know anything about Freestyle BMX brands, I know it’s a sub culture and branding is king so don’t want to recommend the wrong one for him.

So what's about?

Possibly £250 -£400 I believe.

Thanks!

If i was 14 i'd probably be disappointed if i didn't get a Cult:

Or a Sunday:

Thanks for the replies, this really is something I know quite literally nothing about.

Is Cult the equivelant of a Specialized, or Santa Cruz/Intense type of purchase?

_tom_ - What would you compare Sundays with in the MTB world?

Cult is like a super-legit gritty rider-owned company. I can't think of an mtb equivalent, but maybe Stanton? Empire Cycles if they get big? (Someone correct me if i'm wrong - i'm not too hot on current mtb brands)

Sunday are the bike division of Odyssey - a parts brand. Very innovative and stylish, but more Hollywood than Cult. Santa Cruz-esque i guess.

What bike this kid will like most probably depends a lot on what riders he admires - and what the cool kids in his area ride as well of course.

Also, how tall is he? BMX size is important just like mountain bikes - though it's all done on toptube length.

That makes a lot of sense. It's apparently a surprise present from his grandfather so can't find out those details that would help the purchase.

Cult and Sunday both sound like good choices.

The sunday scout maybe too big/stable for a 14 year old.

In the price range you're looking at, any good brand is offering pretty much of the same thing really in terms of value for money.

Look at brands like sunday, cult, wethepeople, subrosa, verde, fitbikeco. The cheaper ones are smaller than the more expensive ones. So entry price at £300 you'be be looking at 20" tt, non mahoosive bars 9though they're cool, he'll inevitably want some), it would be suitable be someone around sort of 5ft2ish-5ft6. At about 3400 hundred, they tend to have bigger bars and about a 20.5"tt, suitable for up to about 5ft8.

it would also be very hard to equate BMX to MTB brands. Good bmx brands are generally rider run and reasonably small outfits. Where MTB companies are generally very much bigger and far more corporate.

Thanks for your input deanfbm

Taking into account what you've said, I believe the kids height is about 5'7/8, would :

Seem like a pretty ideal bike in terms of style, size, design etc. Obviously I understand there are so many different factors that can go into this so it's pretty much in a nutshell type of answer?

Thanks again!
