I tend to get fairly cold feet when it's cold out, even with thick socks on. I'm thinking of going with the EPS five tens. Are they good year round/3 seasons or will my feet melt off if it gets above single digits?
Wore some in the heatwave and my feet are still solid and unmelted.
I don't tend to suffer hot feet anyway, but do swap to cotton socks when it's milder.
i wear mine all year round, including a week in france at about 30 degrees. my feet are fine, not sure i would want to go walking around town in them but don't notice them when on the bike
EPS high whatever the weather here 🙂
No issues at all. I do have Reynauds though!
Last time the EPSs were on deal at Sports Pursuit a few people on here were saying they are too hot for summer use.
Take from that what you will..
I'm looking at the Freerider Elements as a middle ground.
Of course the real answer is having more than one pair of MTB shoes.
i have about 8 or 9 pairs for flats alone.
EPS low here, also worn all year..
only issue is dont leave em wet too long as they pong, and i've had to use shoe shapers to stretch as they got so wet they shrunk a bit
That's a good point, they are smaller than normal freeriders (2016 version and previous anyway).
I went up from UK 9.5 to 10.
Haven't used them in the hot yet, but bought regular Freeriders for that anyway. Been using EPS since Nov for mud. Not so bothered about cold as everything below my knees seems to not feel it.
Nice and easy to wipe clean. They were a bit tight fitting for the same size as regular Freerider, but have eased off now. I've not got them proper wet yet though.
If I only had one pair I'd be happy to wear them all year round, but experience with Five Ten rubber has shown they won't last more than a couple of years if I do that.
Yeah, that's another point, if you're paying top dollar wear some cheaper daps in summer!
Probably a false economy to run one pair year round… you'll just have to buy replacements sooner.
EPS high for me this winter… spent the summer in Freerider pros. They size up much the same, with the EPS high being a bit loser to give room for thick/waterproof socks. Both pairs have been great so far.
