Free Ranger and a road double?

Anyone done it?

I've got a SRAM Rival 1*11 Free Ranger.  It's getting ridden more on road than off and I'm wondering if it could be 2* converted.

2 reasons

  1. Big gaps between gears are more of a hindrance on the road
  2. It lacks a lower tempo cruising top end for flatish / gently downward sections. I'm more diesel lorry than revvy motorbike.

Thinking a bar-end front shifter or similar and a 48/34 or 50/34 plus a closer stacked cassette.

Thinking chainstay clearance could potentially be an issue, although I assume the outer of a double would be slightly further out than a single.

They used to sell it with 2x11 Ultegra so 50/34 should be fine as I don't remember a smaller option.
