I recently bought a garmin 2nd hand, but it has no mapping on it. Is there any decent free mapping I can download onto a memory card? I'm sure I've heard that there is some around.

Cheers

Openmtbmap.org or just do a search on here. This subject comes up quite a bit so its worth having a nose at some if the previous answers although the above does pretty much cover it

Yes you can use more than one. Each map compiles into a gmapsupp.img file which sits on the SD card. If you want to run multiple maps just rename each one to openmtbmaps2016.img or whatever, then you can switch between them under the maps menu. Or setup different profiles like MTB, touring etc which use a different map.

Just google 'DC Raimmaker Garmin Maps' for an excellent guide on downloading & installing free & excellent openstreetmaps for the Garmin. Much better than the Garmin maps!

I also followed the DC Rainmaker guide to get maps on my 810 and while I only used them for the first time on Sunday I was quite impressed.

I have both OS maps and osm on my 800, OSM is much better in my opinion.
