Swapping out an XT 11-46 11spd cassette for a sun race 11-50 11 spd on hope pro 4 hubs. Do you need to keep the the spacer ring on the free hub? Both seem to work which is odd

Yes. The spacer is needed for any MTB width cassette on a pro 4. Only 11 speed Shimano road cassettes won't need it.

Ah drat - passed you reminded me before I started but much as that's time saved that's today's plan scuppered, can anyone tell me what thickness the spacer should be?
