Looks like it may be wet again and windy. Luckily I'll be doing a bit of marshalling this time.
I'll be on the left turn to Lorton at the bottom of Whinlatter (with plenty of water) - if anyone needs it.
Good luck
Forecast is for sun in the lakes tomorrow
That's right, and it's lovely here tonight - Alpenglow!
The Fred's on Sunday
Lol forecast still looks good 🙂
It's going to be warm and sunny with no wind! (wishful thinking)
Sorted my bike out today, just need to pack my stuff tonight and head off to the lakes tomorrow. It's going to kill me but will hopefully get round (rider number 1713).
Riding round with my friend Ali, who is doing a cracking job raising money for Macmillan. Feel free to sponsor her 🙂

Good luck all. Cracking event. Tough as.
7.40ish Simon?
Good effort. Windy, but hope the rain held off - minging here now!
Well done Rorsach (if I've got the correct fella - just over 6 hrs and third?).
Looking forward to EduDales next sunday now - weather's got to be good hasn't it?
Was'nt me (thank god!!).Impressive if Ian went 6hrs......although we'll never hear the bloody end of it at work tuesday if he did 🙄
Edit 8:25,we're safe.
Boxelder, you still taking a bed at ours on Sat night?
We rode from Appleby to Home this weekend. The wind was a killer and now I'm collapsed on the sofa

Got accosted by Southlakes, handing out leaflets, near the end too.

Some cheeky bugger overtook me in the van going down Kirkstone pass <i was being considerate to other riders 😆
Was'nt me (thank god!!)
Greig Brown - he's someone on here IIRC
you still taking a bed at ours
....only if it comes with breakfast..... 😛
Yes, that'd be great - will mail you.
Greig is radoggair on here, he got 6:09 and took third.
That was quite hard. Cracking day out though apart from the evil headwind on Cold Fell.

(the number I put up ^^^ was wrong, I was actually number 1350)
Well done, Greig! Top effort.
simondb, how did y manage to shave 3.5 miles off the length looking at your strava data?have the organisers been cheating everyone all these years 😉 take me hat off to anyone finishing, went to see a couple of lads finish, the wind was very nasty!!!!
Good day, the wind was hellish though.
6:09 is a bloody good effort, a mate of mine was in that group I think, but ended up having bike issues and he finished with about a 6 hour 20 something in the end.
I just gritted it out on my tod and enjoyed the foodstops. Ended up with a 7:16 in the end which wasnt to bad considering the ****ing wind!

Strava seems to under report mileage. My GPS computer showed 178km.

todays garmin for the ride. Very windy, started off with 8am 'fast' bunch, whihc dropped and gained riders all the time. Rob and Ally went away at 50 miles ( honiston maybe?), thought we'd pull them back but didn't. Hardknott pass a killer with a 39-27 low gear.
Great day, thought i'd crack 6 hours and in hindsight we did take our foot of the gas alot of times so could of. Wind was the killer issue though.
Happy with result, glad legs didn't go ping, felt like they would on numerous occasions. Well done to everyone who completed it,a great achievement
Those times are amazing. I'm reasonably fit for me at the moment, finished the Dyfi last week in just under 4hrs, yet the Whittton took me a very painful 10.47 My one consolation was that neither Hardnott or Wrynose beat me, both were ridden. (Although I did stop to check out the view on Hardnott, half way up.) Think my ears are still ringing from the constant wind noise!

You are nuts.
7:16 for me too. Great day. Nasty wind.
good top speed raddoggair (55.4pmh)
I pipped you by .3mph though 😉
bloody tough event
weather is almost always bad
I wish I could bottle up some of that red mist energy that comes on the final run in to Coniston.
T'was my first road event, so a bit in at the deep end - I f'king loved it! Clocked in at 8:57, so was well chuffed with that. The descent off Honister pass was nuts (only managed 53.5mph). I'm going back next year for sure, with the aim of riding all of the Hardknott.
Great supporters, marshalls, feed stations, beautifully run. 😀
Kirkstone is the fast descent, not Honister. If you did 53 off Honister you'd be dead...
Honister can be pretty quick after the corners at the top, but this year there was a head wind all the way down it so a 53 is a bit unlikely. Kirkstone was brill though, you could jsut carry all that speed right along Ullswater.

Wow, that's properly impressive!
I was trying to be very sensible on the descents. I did top 50mph though. I was much, much slower going uphill!!!

Completed it in 10:15, which I'm pleased about as I'm a complete punter.
What did puzzle me somewhat was all the people quite happy to push up Hardnot. Isn't the whole point of something like that to cycle it all?

I was really pissed off at losing balance and having to walk about 10 metres on Hardknott until I could get going again. Not quite pissed off enough to go back and try it again though 😉
Presumably most couldn't manage to. It's a steep old drag, without 100 miles to get to it. Were you on a triple?

Indeed. It would be a properly hard climb without 100miles already in your legs! Those forced to push were really supportive as I was attempting to winch 14 stone up there on 34x28
Raddog, you're my hero 🙂 Mwah!! 😉
I came in at just over 9 hours which I was chuffed with as I'm not hugely fit at the moment. Also delighted to have made it up both Honister and Wrynose, though Hardknott defeated me. Chapeau to all who cycled Hardknott; it's a climb that has to be seen to be believed.
Oh, and a huge thank you to all the marshals, feed station helpers, police and particularly the crowds who lined the route and cheered everyone on. Coming over the line at the end with a big crowd cheering and clapping was very emotional.
I thought the whole thing was really well run. All the major junctions were marshalled (don't think I had to stop at one) and the folk at the feed stations were great. Thanks especially to the lovely lady from Largs who sorted my drinks bottle for me. Wind was a bit of a killer though. I got blown across the road at the end of Buttermere.
Sorry, meant to say Kirkstone. I think the headwind coming up the Honister descent was getting on for 53 though.. 😆
