After some opinions on how you would approach this
I bought a frame a few years ago that had a manufacturing defect meant that the paint bubbled, I believe this was filiform corrosion.
The company I bought it from agreed it was a warranty job and offered to repair by refinishing and repainting. This was in early June. I have been made 2 promises about repair timescales that have both lapsed, although now there is talk of a new replacement being offered but no stock available now. Been waiting a total of 3.5 months now
Am I being unreasonable just asking for my money back at this stage?
Money back, if something else goes wrong it will never be seen again.
MONEY BACK.
what frame is it?

I think its unreasonable that you waited so long to ask for your money back 😉
This happened to me with a Transition Bandit frame where the paint came off the chainstays when it was washed. Transition in Canada said literally “doesn’t affect the performance of the bike”. Luckily for me the U.K. distributor stepped in and organised a new frame 7 months later which was a pain in the ass to wait for. If I’d to do it again I’d ask for a full refund.
So get a refund and buy a different bike!

Whats a few years ? A warranty is at the manufacturers discretion. A few years might put you outside any statutory rights. Not sure you'll get any money back, so hang in there and see what they come up with.
Is the bike still in your possession, if so a bit of bubbling paint won't stop it from being ridden.

Thats a good one, they obviously forgot that paint is (or should be) for environmental protection as well as aesthetics
@legend while on the phone to them I asked him if he bought a Porsche and the paint fell off the wing would he be happy if told didn’t affect the performance. He didn’t take it too well!! Got a bit stroppy 😁
Paint on an MTB after " a few years" is almost certainly outside your statutory rights. Even if it is not you are only eligible for a partial refund as you have had the use of it for " several years"
so you are reliant on the manufacturers goodwill in offering you anything at all. I think they have offered a very good deal.
