Frame protection - linseed or other?

I have a vintage road/town bike frame to restore. I'll be cleaning, degreasing and treating the rust, but then want to treat the frame somehow to ensure rust won't return quickly on exposed steel.
I've read about using boiled linseed oil to prevent further rust and keep patina - has anyone done this or would you recommend an alternative clear coat spray?

Will take a look at ACF-50, looks interesting - assume you'd use something to remove the rust first, before applying that or just slap it on and it inhibits further rust developing?

Get frame blasted and painted or powder coated.

Don't use linseed.
Please, for the love of god, don't use linseed.

Unless it's absolutely perfect it'll run out of your breather holes every time it gets hot, it'll stain the paint, it'll get all over your bottom bracket (and quite possibly, if left long enough, glue it in place)...

Presumably this is insider tubes? I make my own frames and now just use boiled linseed oil. It dries in a day or so and doesn't makes the mess described above. I could image non boiled oil might as it dries very slowly.

Original used Boeshield but found it very weak, expensive and ineffective in UK conditions.

Ah yeah that I could believe. But boiled linseed oil melting and dripping isn't a thing.

Mick do you put it on warm?

I used Waxoyl, I heated (with a heat gun) and rotated and jiggled the frame for ages to get all the excess out. Frame was unpainted when I did it. I've no idea if it's working, I cannot see inside my chainstays obvs.
