You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So my bike build is in the final stages and now need to consider some frame protection for the chainstay, and cable rub spots.
I would also prefer it was clear so as to not detract from the look of the bike
Is helicopter tape the way forward, or are there decent patch kits out there? the ones I have had in the past have either peeled off or turned yellow over time. Is a lizard skin type thing, or an old inner tube a better option for the chainstay? Cant see how you would make the latter look good though?
If copter tape is the way forward, which is the bestest stuff and where can you get it cheapest?
viking tapes or e-bay, check out the previous threads for the links
also best to tape when it comes out the box, sorry!
also best to tape when it comes out the box, sorry!
assuming you mean you tape the whole thing? Not sure I want to do that, just the chainstay and cable rub bits, maybe the downtube.
yep, thats what I did, bit harder but much easier when the frame is easier to move round.
Warm it up, fan heater/hair dryer and the tape to make it mold round easier.
Downtube
Stays For chain and heel rub
Front round badge/head tube for rub
Consider the top tube as your legs/shorts rub that too
Innertube is the way to go for the chainstay.
This is one I did a while back. I now start at the dropout end and wind towards the front.

Heli-tape and inner tube or in fact road bar tape looks neater and weighs nothing. You could get some clear Cinelli Jelly bar tape for a subtle look. Start at the BB end and secure with a single zip-tie at the dropout end. No nasty electrical tape needed. I have wound the tape from the dropout end but the zip-tie gives mud something to catch on.
I think paragontapes was where I got my heli.
