Hi i've got a new Ragley Bagger frame and i've got my LBS to fit a headset but the bottom cup just slips in by hand and comes out just as easy(hope tapered.) I called Chainreaction to let them know, they have e-mailed me back saying this frame doesn't need a the headset press fitted.
1 are there different ways headsets are fitted?
2 has anyone had the same issue
3 Have i described this wrong to crc by saying the headset didn't need "press fitted"? (i'm going with 3)
you need some of this, if you keep the frame
I seem to remember ragley making slightly bigger seatposts to fit their slightly bigger seat-tubes at some point (27.3 maybe)
The only things which slip in by hand are integral cartridge bearings. Cups should never be hand-tight.
Are both ends the same size? They should be on 44mm straight head tube so if a cup is tight in one end and loose in the other it's ****ed.
this frame doesn't need a the headset press fitted.
haha.. ha..
quote of the year from CRC!
Send the frame back.
Send it back
There's a shim so the seat collar fits, so have I described it right by saying it needs press fit?
Yeah he said the top end seemed fine, just the bottom, and yeah it was 44mm hope headset. Sounds like i'll be sending it back then, but my LBS called them as soon as he noticed this and the guy said there were no 17" baggers left .
It's possible to make it work - I'd do it by knurling the headset cup, but if it's a tight push fit (I.e. it doesn't wobble) then the Loctite would be fine too.
I won't get a look until 2mo to see how loose it is and I guess I'll take it from there, never really thought lock tight would hold a headset in tho.
There is many different types of loctite. Don't just use a threadlock, you need a proper bearing fit stuff.
But tbh I would just send it back and get a frame that's been made properly.
Yeah I was thinking that, not sure about bodging especially when It comes to selling on.
It's a brand new frame and I wouldn't be bodging anything.
I'm pretty sure Hotlines are owned by CRC and Hotlines are the main if not sole distributers for Ragley. Surely they can get a replacement frame easily enough as a warranty case, may even get a 2013 frame as a replacement.
If no luck from CRC or Hotlines I'd be contacting Ragley direct as it's a reflection on them as a brand.
send it back!
no knurling, no loctite.
its a brand new frame and its wrong so they'll either credit you or swap it out.
