You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi.
I've been using a back pack for the past few years but these days I just find it cumbersome and annoying. I'd like to get a frame bag for stashing vital bits and pieces. Anyone use anything good? Halfthe price of ortleib would be about right.

The Lomo one is very good.
how big? bike-bags do good cheap custom ones. Ibera ones seem to be easily available mail order and very well made for a low price http://www.ibera.info/products_list.php?cID=10
My bike has a weird frame for a hardtail with hose and cables running under the top tube - custom sounds good so I'll check that out cheers.
Bike is a 2017 kona shred that I'm gradually modding up. I want to fill the whole triangle.
There are quite a few folk making custom frame bags but I went with bike bags for two reasons - cost is lower and lead time is short. they are perhaps not as well finished as some but nice and robust.

Shouldn't be an issue. I've used a Lomo on frames like that.
Does depend on how much stuff you want to put in the bag. I can get all tools and spares (plus a bit more) in an Alpkit top tube bag that I mount inside the frame.

Pump is mounted to the frame BTW.
The other option is the so-called "jerry can" type bag that fits in front of the seat post.

That bag is a Wildcat Cheetah but is similar to this Revelate Jerry Can (not sure what Wildcat will be doing product wise when they start up again). That will take tools and spares, no inner tube, plus basic first aid kit, emergency sewing kit and a bit more depending on where I'm heading.
I want to fill the whole triangle.
Are you planning on carry water inside the frame bag? Or got something else lined up?
I want to fill the whole triangle.
Full frame bags come as a standard shape which might fit your frame or custom which are expensive. You might also want to consider an internal divider of some sort to provide some structure otherwise the bag can bulge especially on larger frames.
Half frame bags can often give you very close to the capacity of a full frame bag but still let you use the bottle cages or shove your arm through the frame to lift/carry the bike for whatever reason.
I've a full frame bag on my fat bike and outside full on winter it's actually a bit of a pain as I can't fit a water bottle to the frame because of it so have to carry the bottle inside the bag or use a Camelbak or similar.
Perhaps some clarification of exactly what you want might be in order.
I have a Blackburn one. It expands so you can use it as a half or full bag. Waterproof too and about £30.
Worth a look?
Mashr - we're eying up the Badger Divide so I'm bagging up with that in mind. Bike-bags looks good.
