First ride out on some 2009 Vanilla's I picked up recently. I weigh 74kg/163lbs and am using the recommended blue spring ( Rider weight 150-180lbs), so it should be spot on, but I must only be getting 60mm of travel, no matter what. Thought I was going mad, so, before you ask, I have checked the lockout is off and that's even with compression damping set to minimum. Seems unaffected no matter what I do with preload or rebound damping.

Are the recommended spring weights known to be a little on the high side? (Like RS air pressures)- should I go down to the next softer than recommended (purple?) spring - or could something more serious be wrong? It feels like I'm riding an almost rigid bike or as if I've got the lockout on. Help please....What weight are you and what spring are you using?

I'm about 180lbs and I found the purple spring was just right when I had Vanillas.

P20 - When you say 'soft' - is that the purple one? Thanks

11 and a bit stone here too, but found the purple spring way too soft, got plenty of travel, but it felt like riding a nodding dog. Very rarely hit full travel with the standard spring, but stuck with it as I prefer the way it feels. Also got a spare purple spring somewhere in my kit box if you're interested, e-mail in profile.

Thanks for all your replies, they backed up my theory and, FYI, - I went with the purple and it's spot on. Recommended springs are too high IMHO to achieve the desired sag.
