My newly acquired 190 x 50mm van RC needs a new spring to cope with my bifta like stature.

I am looking at these here Nukeproof titnium ones.

I know fox have funny spring length sizing and the spring on mine says 2.45 , but I measured the free length and its only 111mm, so will the nukeproof 2inch one with a free length of 124mm be ok? Or is there a possibility it will go coilbound and I should go for the slightly longer 2.25 134mm one? 10mm of extra coil will detract from my weight saving spending..

Thanks in advance

i'll have a look at mine tonight, got a 190X50 van rc on my five

can't remember which biffa spring I've got though, something like a 650 or a 700 - being from yarkshire i bought a cheaper manitou one for £25

think from memory i thought it would take something around 130mm-ish but don't quote me

have you not measured the van rc?

careful on free length on 190mm Fox shocks, can be a little tight.

FWIW, if the stroke is listed as 2" it should be fine as 50mm is not quite 2 inches.

I've got a 650lbs/2.25 Nuke proof Ti spring and I can tell you now that will NOT fit on my 190mm Fox Vanilla RC, but does fit on my 200mm one.

amedias - I am confused by what you say - your 650lbs/2.25 is too long for the 190 van rc shock?

So the shorter one is Ok?

Chunkypaul - thats a good point. I havent measured the max free length that will fit in there doh.

correct.

I have 2 fox shocks
a 190x50mm Vanilla RC
and a 200x57mm Vanilla RC

my 650lbs/2.25 Nukeproof Ti spring is too long (free length) to fit the 190mm shock, but dooes fit on the 200mm one.

however.. I also have a steel 650lbs/2.25 fox spring that does fit on either shock. The free length of the Ti one is longer for the same spring weight.

best thing to do is measure your shock to make sure whatever you buy will fit.

So the shorter one is Ok?

If by that you mean is a spring with a stroke of 2inch ok for a 190x50mm shock then the answer is yes.

The rule is that the stroke of the spring must be *at least* as big as the stroke of your shock. You cna use a spring with a longer stroke, as long as its free length is small enough to physically fit on the shock body.

++++1 for measure your shock
my Vanilla may be different to your Van

OK, good plan. I guess I was more worried about the other end of the problem, that the 2" nukeproof ti one will go coilbound on the 190/50mm shock, but I think I'm just being silly..

I guess its because fox supply it with a 2.25 travel spring so they must have some coilbinding concern... Although ti wouldn't surprise em to fidn that the nukeproof 2" travel spring may well actually not go coilbound until some point well over 2" like 2.25..

Nukeproof spring you'll need a 2.0" (which is what I have on the same size shock as you) a fox 2.25 or 2.45 should fit. Fox and nuke proof measure them diffently..there's some notes about on TFtuned spring calculator page.

right - just measured up my manitou 2" 700lbs spring and its max free length was 126mm

wound off the screw on the shock to the maximum and that dimension was approx. 138mm so in theory those nukeproof ti springs (2" and 2.25") would just fit my Fox Van RC
