Got a set of Fox F Series 120s, RLs...... On a 2010 Scott Spark.
Anyway to save a bit of coin, im going to do the fork service myself. Usually send them away, but done loads of motorbike forks, thought why? so lets do them myself....
Been on the Fox website to find out the oil required. But i have no idea after reading all the charts. is it open bath, not open bath? How much oil will the fork need? I think its 165ml if in reading the chart right!! But it could be 30ml.....
Got a pair of Fox 32 Performance Elite Fit4 CTDs i'll do the seals and oil after too (Scott Spark 2016)and im positive its 30ml hahahah (i think)
Anyone with more experience know?
30cc gold each side as it should be a fit RL damper fork right? It should have a fit sticker at the bottom of the drive side lower I think.
The F120 differs from regular float forks in that they used a thinner guage CSU and lighter lowers (no cast webbing in the bridge).
Basically the lightest 32 format and I'm pretty sure it was only ever a fit damper.
Yeah, the Fit4 CTD uses less oil cos the Fit4 part does that job or something, so 30ml each side is what i read.
The F120 RL tho? You reckon 165ml? The seals are good on both forks, no oil leaks, i'll measure what comes out and replace with same volume worst case
no, i reckon 30cc gold in that fork too. It wouldne been 10wt originally till they released teh gold.
There are new low friction seals to work better with gold also. I've found aftermarket or prior spec seals to be a bit weepy.
Fox on a 2010 Scott Spark was only the 10 and 20 models so would've been decent spec damper so unlilkely open bath.. It'll have a "fit" sticker on it. Forget fit4.. this is earlier.
RL stands for rebound and lockout. it doesn't pertain specifically to the damper itself.
As above, if you're using the Gold oil, make sure you have the low friction seals, it doesn't play well with the older standard ones, and will p*ss itself through them.
I had a hard time working this out for some forks made by Fox for Giant. I sent an email to Fox customer support in the US. Took a day or two to come back but they couldn't be more helpful (mine are open bath non-FIT so 165ml).
Ah, I have just bought skf seals. Do these work ok with the 20wt gold oil?
I have 10wt too, so could stick with that if the seals don't play well with 20wt and swap to the 20wt at the subsequent services.
Both done. Used SKF flanged seals on the older F120s, and the Fox non flanged ones on the F32 Elite FiT4s.
Seals went in ok. The Fox ones defo low friction. Used a 32mm socket to push 'em in.
So, how much oil?
30ml in both the forks. The oil was in really good condition in both of them.
