Afternoon all,

I'm looking to upgrade the stock RS Ario shock on my Specialized Camber and I've managed to get hold of a Fox RP2 with the correct stroke.

However, to complicate what I presumed was going to be a simple swap and forget job, apparently these come pre-tuned for the best performance on specific bikes.

Will it make a noticeable difference if the specific tune (low, mid, high) isn't quite matched to my bike? I've trawled the web looking for any specific charts / recommendations for particular frames but can't seem to find anything definitive.

Not sure if it'll help or not but I will email you the stock suspension chart from Spesh.

I'd be interested in the outcome on this.

@Normal Man

Just received now mate, cheers. Can't reply to you via email because there's something wrong with my Yahoo mail.

I think I have a similar chart in the bike handbook that came with the bike. It gives the required stroke length for each bike but sadly for the Fox shocks it doesn't say anything about which rebound / compression tuning they run. I'll give Specialized a bell on Monday and see what they say.

No worries.

You did see the rebound info on page 2?

Yup, seen that. I'm specifically interested in the different factory 'tunes' that these shocks come in as opposed to the user-adjustable compression / rebound.

Your best bet is to contact Fox (or Mojo) themselves. They should be able to tell you which tune is best suited to your bike.

Or you could post something on here asking what tune other folk have with the Camber Pro, assuming that comes stock with a Fox shock.

Different bikes have different suspension actions hence different tunes. But a lot depends on rider weight and style too.

The tunes only alter the range of the damping from what i can tell. My SJ came with Medium tunes and it wasnt right for my weight at all. I had the rear shock (RP23) PUSH'd in the end and asked for more damping, especially rebound.

Ride it and adjust the damping to see if you can get it to work for you on you bike. if not, then it can either be re-tuned by Mojo or TFTuned, or you could get it PUSH'd.

I bought a second hand rp2 for my old 2005 far and it was pre tuned with firm compression. I'm not a heavy rider so when pro pedal is on it feels like more of a lockout which was what i wanted.

It depends what the travel, leverage ratio is, my rockstar has 100mm travel with a 50mm stroke shock (2-1 leverage ratio) and has a factory tune of low rebound, low compression,
my five spot when I put six inch rockers with the stock 50mm stroke shock, (giving a 3-1 leverage ratio) needed a high rebound/compression tune to feel ok,
Your weight also affects this as well, if you're of a portly stature you might need a higher tune regardless...

Medium/Medium tune should be ok as stock for that, as with everything it'll be inporvable with a custom tune.
Fit it ride it, see if you like it, if not quite right send it in for a tweak to better match , you, your bike & the rding you do.
Any queries feel free to drop us a mail 😀

Does the volume count? Can any shock be tuned the way you like? Is the m/m suitable for the average 12 / 13st rider?

Yes volume makes a difference to how the shock feels larger volume will feel more linear with less ramp up. This may or may not suit your suspension system.

As long as the shock has a compression and rebound circuit exist there is usually a way you can modify and tune it. But if for example your shock doesn't have a compression circuit then there is nothing to modify.

The m/m tune should be suitable for a 12/13st rider on a Spec Camber, as said different suspension systems require different tunes so it will not suit every bike.

I got a low volume M / M rp23 with a 225 bv, initial reports are prety good, just need to fiddle with the pressure. I think the low volume might be a bit much for me and I could maybe do with a standard can, but pretty happy so far
