You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So the monarch RT3 that came with my titus FTM carbon is dying and while the sensible thing to do is replace it like-for-like, sensible seems bloody dull - so I'm looking to do a silly upgrade for the sake of it.
I'd a heavy sod at 110kg fully kitted, hence I'm looking at dual-air type systems and have narrowed it down to the Fox Float X CTD or the Bos Kirk. I know I don't want another RS and I've never really got on with the CCDBA,
Anybody got any opinions or can give me decent reasons to go one way or the other ? Price isn't really a factor here.
Cheers
Bos aftercare somewhat lacking by the accounts I've seen. On that basis I would say the correct answer is the Float X you fancy but bought from tftuned such that its set up for your colossal weight (I'm a svelt 106kg 😉 ).
Edit: that's in my pants actually so could well be above 110kg kitted 😳 !
106kilos in your pants? You must have massive cajones! 😯 Just wondring why you never god on with a Double barrel?
BOS are serviced by JTech and Mad Elk Cycles (Ireland and main UK dealer) so no problems there.
I vote BOS because they are the best suspension units I have ever used.
BOS are currently moving to Jungle from Mad Elk so it's all in a bit of a flux at the moment on that front. That's kinda one of the things that puts me off there really that tftuned don't touch them.
Bos all day long, though curios why you don't want rockshox again?
Fox are made of cheese....cheap cheese
Get a RS Monarch Plus. Seriously, it's a brilliant shock, better than a Float X, and with great after sales support.

Means nothing if they can't get the support they need from BOS, which has been the issue all along
Rockshox on the front, absolutely fine. On the back I seem to just make them explode. They may be better recently but y'know what it's like, you go off past experience.
Never used fox at the back but always been happy with them up front.
Have realised I missed the CCDBA CS, and the lack of a climb mode was why I didn't get on with the ccdba... so that's rearing its head again in my mind.
Bos I think may well be the best of the lot but their service is worrying me. If I had two bouncy bikes then it'd be a no-brainer; but I don't want to be in a position where I can't get the shock fixed in about a week in worse case.

I've spoken to both JTech and MEC and no problems there.
Edit: I also understand that Fox parts also fit BOS so they can be fitted if all else fails.
I got a double CCDBA CS just before xmas. I came from a hardtail so dont have masses of experience with other shocks but it seems brilliant. The climb switch is fantastic. The shock still works but doesnt feel like it when pedaling. Stock settings for my frame felt a bit soggy but the beauty of all it's adjustments meant a few knob turns here and there and it's dialled. It was a toss up between the cane creek and the Float X but I couldn't find a float x to ride. I have heard it's good from a couple of people now and someone I know has just fitted his so will be interesting to hear what he thinks.
As good as the Bos stuff is, I don't even consider it anymore. Regardless of who is importing it I can't see the parts supply getting any better. A friend had to wait just over a year for an aircan for a vip'r!
Yes fox seals etc fit the devilles but why should anyone have to go down that route 🙄 I'd also imagine that the shocks require their own seals not fox etc.
I personally only run ccdb air's now as nothing else i've tried compares.
If you don't like the ccdb then go for the fox over the bos, at least you can get one and know that if something does go wrong, chances are you can send it off and have it back for the next weekend!
