I remember when it was just vanilla/float/talas and r/l/c... but now there appear to be hundreds of versions! Is there a simple way of looking at it all?

Quite simple really

Float is fixed travel air
Talas is variable travel air
Van is coil

Evo and Performance are the cheaper variants (evolution being the cheapest)
Factory is the full fat Kashima babies

Chuck in various wheel sizes, stanchion thicknesses and travel and you have lots of variables.

What ARE evo and performance? What makes them cheaper? Something that's described as Fox 32rl, what are they? coil, air? Float? What's FIT? I know what CTD stands for, but does this only appear on specific forks? Is it a remote or fork-mounted thing?

WHAT'S BEST?

So working on that, I have for sale in the classifieds

A pair of cool, captain compromise, what's the bloody difference, chief exec, heterosexual forks.

With a spec like that, I should really just keep them.

It does seem that there are fox forks of every flavour repeatedly appearing in the classifieds at the moment. It seems that whatever the flavour people are getting a lot less excited about them than they used to.

@ndthornton - you should write for one of the magazines, would help clear up a lot of guff! Good effort.

there's also a descriptor like RL or RLC where: R=adjustable rebound, L=lockout, C=adjustable compression

then some also have Terralogic which is supposed to help the fork adjust to provide better response over undulating terrain (or something) but I think is basically just an adjustable lockout

and of course some are QR and some are 15mm axle.
