You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hiya, I have a small but potentially expensive issue.
Bought some forks from ebay for a singlespeed build, they arrived.
All seemed well, but having decided to refresh the oil I find the damper leg nut has stripped the thread on the lower leg of the fork.
Specifically the bit the red damper adjuster sits over.
What are my options?
I don't have the cash for new forks, but could probably afford parts if they are available. Or is it possible to "rethread" somehow the existing leg?
Don't wanna bin these forks as this aside they are really good.
Any suggestions from the STW hive mind?
Pay with paypal? Still within 45days of the purchase? If so, I'd be getting them sent back.
If you're lucky someone like Loco, Mojo or TF Tuned might have the part you'll need, otherwise a new damper is very spendy
Unfortunately had them well over that 🙁
Not familiar with the assembly but stripped female threads can usually be helicoiled. DIY kits on eBay or some good bike shops will do it.
If its the rod that is damaged, you will need a new damper rod. As said speak to Mojo who will have parts support for Fox forks . Also get a new nut as well, in case its damaged that too. They are quite susceptible to over tightening and damaging, they only need to be nipped up with the washer stopping the oil weeping.
Thanks guys, new damper cartridge it is then .
Sounds like just the base valve/ adjuster assm. that needs replacing NOT a new damper cartridge!
Feel free to mail some pictures to us and we can assess it for you 😀
Thanks Loco, pics on way shortly:)
