Removed my factory 2011 float rear shock from the bike for a service and the outer black sleeve on the aircan just spins round so I can't unscrew it?

Yes i've let all the air out and this has worked fine on the two previous services?

Anyone else had this problem? and how do i resolve it?

Cheers...

Hold the smaller diameter part of the air can near wiper seal.

Thanks Loco, I tried that and cant get enough grip to unfasten it, might just need more manly power 😉

Does it matter which setting i have it in? it's pre CTD but Kashima if that make a difference?

A rubber 'boa' oil filter removal tool will help if it's tight, as long as you've let the air out, if it's compressed itself after you did it maybe stuck down and might come off with a bit (or quite a bit) of a bang 😀

a bit of rope in a length of inner wrapped twice around the can should grip it, as a boa alternative

Sounds like a extra volume can, its a kinda strange design I find.

Once you get the shock apart take off the circlip and you can pull the rotating part of the can off to clean inside.

If it's the extra massive high volume can, there's a small circlip around one end of it that needs to be pried out, and then it should just slip off if memory serves me correctly.

I just found the guide: pinkbike show you exactly how to do it, the whole video is worth watching, but the bit that you want is around 1:10.

If you need to clean the XV can, it's best to remove the sleeve when the can is off the shock as you can rest the wiper seal end on a flat sufrace and push the sleeve off once the circlip has been removed.
Saying that unless the inside of the main can is quite dirty it probably won't need to be cleaned.
