The time gas come for me to get my 2008 talas 32 serviced again. Mojo are offering upgrades to FIT and kashima for a reasonable wedge of money.

My question is, are either of these worth an upgrade, or would I be throwing money away?

You may as well do Kashima, because it's not much more expensive (if at all?) than non Kashima. Mine are FIT, and work alright, but I don't recall the non-FIT ones being much worse. Only F100s though, probably more noticeable on longer travel forks.

Cheapest first 'upgrade' might be to change to the SKF low friction seals rather than going for new Kashima uppers.

Cheaper still is to learn to do them yourself!

Assuming your forks are working fine but just need a service, when I considered this, the impression I got was that FIT was a better upgrade than Kashima. I have 2009 Talas RL forks with open bath so, not only would there be the benefits of going to FIT, they would also go from RL to RLC.

I think the low friction seals are added by mojo as standard now.

I would love to have a go myself, I am just a bit worried about destroying something so expensive to replace.

For a simpleton, what difference does FIT make. I have read lots of reviews which say its better but never really understood why.

Be careful. I've got a 2008 Rlc and the kashima upgrade was approx £100 more as you need to change some parts out, including top caps, and some other parts I can't remember. Transformed the fork though when combined with the new seals. I've not had the fit upgrade and not sure whether you can on the 2008 models.

I had my 2006 36's changed to the fit damper last year, it was well worth it in my opinion

I can't comment on forks but the Kashima upgrade wasn't worth the money for my RP23. It's better, but it's not £100 better IMO.

Have done quite a few Kashima and FIT conversions. For forks I'd say the most cost effective upgrade is to fit the FIT damper (as alot better than the Open bath units) and the new SKF seals which reduce friction by a marked amount.
If your crown steerer unit is worn replace with the Kashima unit but wouldn't bother otherwise.
Feel free to drop me a mail if you have any queries 😀

SI, how much would the FIT upgrade cost?

Drop me a mail, I don't quote prices on the forum as it's a bit too 'spammy' 😀

Cheers LoCo, presumably it was your website I was looking at earlier. I'll drop you a line about some costs in the morning when I'm not suffering baby induced insomnia
