don't know much about droppers at all.

a mate crashed today on his bike with a Fox dropper and afterwards the saddle was rotated. he rotated it back to straight and rode on just fine. but the dropper was much slower to come back up, and the cable end at the Remote lever is frayed and he can feel it with his thumb.

anyone know what happened? is it easy to put a new cable in? does he need to?

Assuming a transfer post, the soldered ferrule end is at the base of the seat post. The lever end is cut then tucked away in the lever itself. Poking a frayed end could be trick but not impossible.

The end being frayed at the lever won't cause the post speed to change unless it's affecting the motion of the lever.
That said, replacing a cable costs about a pound and isn't terribly difficult so I'd go ahead and do it just to avoid a bit of wire going into my thumb!

I'd guess the cable has pulled through a bit at the lever on the bar (it popped the end cap off the cable when it did so which is why it now seems frayed.) The speeed of return on the Fox dropper depends on how far you push the lever - push a little bit and it's slow. Push fully and it's quick. When you press the lever it's not pulling as far as it used to

You could try pulling the cable through the lever a bit and putting another cap on but it will be easier just to replace the cable.
