Had to send my shock off to mojo earlier in the year as it was leaking oil everywhere and it felt like the damping had gone.

Iceland it back for about a month now and for the first 3 weeks the shock shaft has been dry but this last week its been showing the tell tale oil marks around the it which is how it started last time ?

The damping also feels funny in trail mode.

I'm obviously going to speak to mojo in the morning but I was just wondering what my options are here and if it's worth upgrading etc.

Experienced something similar with a bog standard CTD recently. I did an air can service and seal replacement myself in the autumn and its not seen much action since then. 2nd to last ride I noticed loads of fluid on the shaft and trail mode felt more like descent, eating through the travel really easily. I added an extra 25psi and half way through my next ride it was back to business as usual.

If it does go wonky again I don't see the point in having it fixed, its not a great shock at the best of times. I've bought a coil shock (VAN RC, dirt cheap from germany) for when the CTD inevitably dies.

That's exactly how it feels.... trail feels like descend?

It's only back from being fixed last time under warranty a month ago.

I lost all compression tune from mine twice, both times fixed under warranty, it was a 2013, came back with 2014 internals.

Mine's a 2015 and has done around 150miles.

I can t really afford to upgrade but are there and better but older shocks that I could fit in place of this one ?

Was thinking along the lines of an rp23. ??

Is a kashima rp23 likely to be better or worse than the ctd shock.

Really depends on which model CTD you have. Could it be more reliable? perhaps.

Be careful buying when a replacement shock as OEM models are tuned for specific frames/linkages.

As your shock is likely still within warranty I'd suggest sending it back again.

Given that its a stock Giant one (I think) I'd stick with the warranty option. Think how many thousands of these they spec, and how few probably go wrong....

It's costing me every time to post it Though.

rp23 I'm looking at is a kashima version from an ibis mojo originally.

It shouldn't cost you, return to the shop you bought it from.

Did you not have it tuned? Id have thought that would void the warranty with giant but you may be covered from the tuning place

Are you sure it's knackered , a bit of oil on the shock shaft is normal , oil pissing out everywhere is obviously a different thing altogether . You seem to have a lot of issues with your cycling equipment ,

think he bought the trance 2nd hand, then sent the shock off to mojo so will be their warranty

speak to mojo, fingers crossed you get a good outcome

I was going to ride the bike today on my local route and try and work out how much oil its leaking.

I know some people say it's normal for a bit of oil but surely if it's been dry for 3 weeks and then all of a sudden its wet again something isn't right.

However as I've borked my bottom bracket I will wait until I ride it again before contacting mojo..
