[Closed] Fox CTD rear shock tuning options??

Ive got a 2015 Fox CTD shock fitted to my Trance and am find it blows through its travel quite a bit even with less sag than recommended.

On the side of the shock is a sticker saying "custom tune id CLHM"

I would like to make the shock a bit more progressive and stop it from blowing its travel.

I weigh 18 stone so appreciate that the shock may be tuned for lighter riders!

What are my options??

Cheers

Steve

PUSH tune @ TF Tuned. Had mine done and it's transformed a decent shock into a very, very good one. They will custom tune it to your weight, bike and riding style.
Highly recommended.

I had thought about push but wasnt sure if there was anyhting else to consider?

Does push tuning take away some of the CTD functionality?

No, the CTD works as normal.
I found on C it's almost like riding a hardtail, very efficient.
I tend to leave mine on T as it's still stable for climbing but kicks in nicely when things head down/rough.
D works really well when pushing hard and feels much more controlled than my old 5th Element coil.

Thats good to know.

Mine is also pretty much locked out in C

T is a pro pedal setting I guess.

Its D for me that just feels wallowy and blows through its travel easier.

LOCO has tuned a few of my shocks. Changes to everything to suit you and your bike and a lot cheaper than Push, remarkable difference.

18stone? Considered a coil with heavier spring?

Not sure if mine will work in yours as mines a RP23. Instead of buying the full kit I could send you one of the spacers from my kit (foc) and you could slot them both together on the stem/shaft. A Cheaper way of figuring if it'd work.

I assume it's the standard Evolution model that mine also came with?

if its the basic evolution unit then junk it and buy something better. The evo uni can't be pushed and there is limited scope for tuning. The volume spacers are worth a go if you are happy with the performance other than the bottoming out.

I was speaking to Loco about getting another shock for a frame and he advised staying well clear of the Evo shocks for the same reasons as poah said.

Maybe if I was abit lighter it may work better, however the rp23 on the 5 spot was pretty decent and was even better with the homemade volume reducer fitted.

I m sure the trance can be better with the shock fettled.

What shock would be better for it?

I set the shock to D earlier and literally just bunney hopped up a kerb and the travel ring is nearly at the bottom of its travel?

That cant be right can it?

It really does blow though its travel in D

Any ideads what tune its got? it says CLHM on the side?

Are you setting the sag in C, T or D? You should switch it to D to set properly.

I've got the same problem, I have the factory kashima ctd shock on my new 5 and find C to not be particularly effective , T and Dboth blow through way to easy, again, heavy rider 19.5 I was thinking about volume reducers, is it a case of buy a pack and slot them all in or just 1 of a particular size?

and you just put 1 of the 3 in? or can you fit multiple spacers, like the tokens on pike forks?

The 3 are different sizes and seem to only fit individually. So different to tokens.

As far as I can tell you get 5 different sized spacers in the pack for the CTD shock.

Gotta say I think it's a bit crappy that these spacers are not supplied with new bikes, after spending thousands on a bike surely I should be able to expect the suspension to work effectively without having to go out and spend more money 'tuning' it? spone to orange about it before who seemed pretty unhelpful really other then "no shouldn't blow through the stroke like that" and said to goto mojo when I asked about volume spacers.

Definitely consider a push tune. TF Tuned recently pushed the CTD on my Yeti, which also said custom tuned on it and suffered from the same problem as yours. I had already gone through the available volume spacer options and mostly ran in trail, but while that tamed the shocks travel usage, it also felt terrible. I started talking to TF Tuned because I was interested in buying a cane creek shock as a replacement, but they talked me into the push tune, which was half the price. It's completely transformed the way my bike rides - it's far more active over rough ground but reserves travel for big hits. What surprised me is how much more fun the bike is, it has more pop and encourages pumping the trail more.

Which model Yeti do you have? I'm having issues with my SB95c.
