Revs all the way. Fox CTD is overly linear, bizarrely so. Revs are more durable, plusher, and hold up better in their travel.

Plus they're less flexy.

Go one better and get Pikes though. They're another level.

And if you can't stomach the price of Pikes go X-fusion.

Rick is mostly right.
One thing i personally would disagree on is the fox.
The 2014 are not as linear with their ramp up than the 2013 were.

True, but they're still bonkers overpriced beacuase they have 'Fox' stickers on them.

X-Fusion and Rockshox perform better.

As above, Slants, and Velvets are well worth a look.

I've not used a 2014 CTD, the word is they've fixed them from last year. Which means that there's only the usual Fox reasons not to buy them 😉 If it's 32s vs Revs that's an easy one, long 32s are made of rubber, an xc fork stretched til it was too long, then stretched some more.

North sorry but that's bollocks, Fox 32's are not rubber.
The only issue with 2014 Fox 32's is the cost.

I've only tried the older CTD system which was a basic non adjust version and as everyone has said I found it too linear. It keep blowing through the travel lots and I didn't get on with it.

For that reason I prefer Rock Shox as even with their RCT3 system you can adjust the low speed compression in all settings and get the fork to feel how you want it to.

I'd like to try a Fox CTD adjust and see if I can get that to feel nice. But I still wouldn't buy it as it'll be far more expensive than other forks which are just as good if not better than the Fox.

yeah normally i would go rockshox but my new bike has the 2013 rear fox ctd shock and i can get the 140mm ctd to match for £400 new.... but i do like the look of the 2014 revs with the rct3. Think ill end up going for them.

Fozzybear what forks you got for sale?

They are not literally rubber, no. But they're enormously less stiff than a Revelation. I'm not really that fussed about flex but the braking flex in a 140mm 32 is pretty silly, and no reason to tolerate that when other companies do it better.

Course, rather than try and make a competitive 32, Fox invented the 34...

We've made some 140mm pikes 😉 also look at xfusion & revs. Depending on price & stiffness requirements

What are the chances that Rockshox may introduce the Pike internals into the Rev's and rest of the range next year? Might be worth waiting for. Find out a Sea Otter in April.

The rev and fox platforms are about the same stiffness.
I've run them side by side having owned them both.
The stanchions of the revs have less flex (fore and aft) but the arch connecting the lowers has more flex. The fox having less side to side flex but a bit more fore and aft.
Having run them both they are pretty equal for stiffness when you take both factors into account.

You're not wanting to listen to me or Northwind are you 😉

150mm Fox 32s = flexy.

Lets agree to disagree. My 32s were very comparable to my Sids in terms of accuracy. Revs are closer to the 34s than 32s.

which CTD's are you actually looking at?
32's long XC, light rider duties (missus gets on fine with them, I don't rate their stiffness - then again the 20mm bolt through Revs from a few years back flex too much for me)
34's in 160 nice and stiff - not a 36 which isn't a bad thing. They are Stiff Enough for 90% of the riding. Not something I would use all year as a replacement for a lyrik or 36 but something I'm happy to strap on my trail bike.

Not tried the new RS forks as I'm happy enough with my 34's after a service and tweak of the oil levels.

Excellent choice, I don't know anyone that's been disappointed with a set of Revs 🙂

I was disappointed with my old ones, not nearly as nice as the Fox I had before or the DT's that came soon after.

I've got Sektors now but only because they came on the bike. If I keep the bike long term I'll be changing them. Interested in the Pikes but only because people say they're nothing like other RS.

I have some new revs, ordered I think on Thursday from Germany and arrived Monday.

The plan was to fit them in the spring once the quagmire dried up. But i am starting to get itchy spannering fingers.
So they may go on sooner.

I have always found fox Float 36 RC2 to be the plushest and stiffest fork on the market for its weight. also pretty tough

Haven't tried the new Pikes though...

Fox 32 is good up to about 120mm with QR15 - anything bigger is as stated - over long and over flexy.

avoid the new CTD damper from what I hear

NO, avoid the OLD 2013 CDT damper.
They fixed the blowing though travel issue for 2014.

you never tried the dual air uturns then that would leak air all over the place and could never really be set... and still with a 20mm bolt were flexi as hell
