Like shit on a blanket, limpet like, harder than Bruce Lee with a flick-knife.

I've unleashed the che, every swear word I know, starred at it, froze it, warmed it up, GT85, WD40 but the air can just won't un-do.

Any tips? I'm heading down Screwfix in the morning for a strap wrench but I don't hold out much hope.

Any tips? I've made sure all the air is out, it's not 'stuck down'.

Report back after you get the strap wrench. It's the tool for the job. Make sure it's cleaned of any oily residue so the wrench can grip.

Leave it attached to the bike, and use constant steady pressure rather than trying to twist it sharply.

Thanks both, will report back.

I'm glad it's not a sign of something terrible happening - all the vids on YT show someone letting out a little grunt and undoing it.

2 hours I swore at it, my hands are killing me.

And it's off!

Bought a 2 pack of wrenches, all they had - the smaller seemed most practical as it gave me a decent amount of room to move when it was in the frame, 30 mins of it - hope, broke out the larger one, another 30 mins, settled on a technique of constant pressure but 'pulsing' to the point when it wound just start to slip - finally gave up with a crack - threads were bone dry.

Changed the seals on the shaft and the canister, they looked fine but I'm not going to open it again in a hurry. Cleaned and lubed and put back together. Like new again.
