Just wondering if anyone has used anything else rather than the above for the grip damper side? I've got some putoline 5wt sitting here and don't want to have to shell out on fox stuff if I can help it .?

I searched, then for a tenner for 250ml I just got the proper stuff....

tbh it would possibly be fine, but I didn't want to wreck a grand fork just cos I was lazy!

Motorex 2.5wt or any quality 15 cSt fluid in the damper. Supergliss or 20wt gold in the lowers.

There is no reason to use a teflon infused oil and no reason to use the same oil in the damper and bath. These forks don't suffer any more or less oil mixing than other cartridge forks and a little oil mixing (bath oil into the damper, damper oil in the bath) is no big deal.

This is the advice from Dougal who runs Shockcraft in NZ.

I imagine he's right about the limited mixing. As I understand it, it's a self bleeding damper rather than an open cycling type. In which case, what he says about a heavier oil in the lowers makes a lot of sense. The Supergliss 100 he mentions is fantastic in the lowers.

5wt Putoline will be fine.

The person referenced above now recommends damper oil in the damper lower leg, not the 20wt of Supergliss he once recommended. I guess he had time to try it out himself...

That's interesting. I assume he (an others) found the grip damper to cycle more oil than a sealed cartridge, but still not as much as an open damper?

Does that mean the seal head is a different design to a typical sealed cartridge?

I'm running a Lyric and was tempted by an Avalanche damper. However, the idea of not running 20wt fox or Supergliss in the lower in that side is a little off putting. I know Dougal offers his Unharsh upgrade for the Charger.

We have seen a lot where people have put 20wt gold in the lower leg of the grip/grip2 damper and when stripped the damper has a considerable amount of gold oil sat at the very bottom of the damper.

The grip dampers use only a u-cup seal to seal the shaft. It is incredibly low friction.
