I'm hopefully getting some new forks in the next few weeks for my nomad and I'm torn between the fox 36 float RC2 or FIT4.
I really want the RC2 because its the top of the range and the price difference isn't much but it doesn't have a quick release axle which would be a bit of a pain as I need to take the wheel out to get the bike in the car if I'm not riding from home.
I have CTD at the moment on a few sets of forks and contrary to popular myth I find it brilliant. I have it on my chameleon, trance and cove and use it a lot but on the nomad I never touch it leaving it in open all the time hence thinking I may as well get the RC2.
I'm not too fussy about suspension and when I have it as I like it I don't mess any further but if I can afford it I like to buy the best.
I also don't like pikes and don't want any other brand other than fox after having years or trouble free ownership.
Anyone ridden both and got a comparison?
I also seem to remember someone doing a 15mm quick release conversion axle for them. any idea who it was?
Thanks
Andy
Not quite in that position yet but based on previous experience, pick a cheap chassis of fork that suits your riding, then fit an avalanche damper. Costs a little more but it's hastle free once set up and noticeably better than any stock damper I've tried.
Unfortunately I need to get the forks from my lbs and I will never see the cash directly but thanks for the suggestion.

Given the high and low speed compression adjustment on the RC2 is one of the major benefits over the Fit4, I'd just stick with the Fit4 if you don't see yourself as a fiddler.
I have the Fit 4 in my 34's, it's great.
I definitely don't see myself as a fiddler!
I'm on a Fit4 34 also.
It's an excellent damper that I mainly leave alone in the open position. The low speed compression does a great job of avoiding dive but remains supple. Arm pump or sore hands are pretty rare these days.
Hi,going by the description below which fork would you think you would receive.
Fox Racing Shox 36 K Float FIT Factory Series RC2 26 Inch 160mm MTB Fork - Kashima Stanchions 2016

It'll be the rc2, don't believe they do the fit4 in 26. RC2 is a FIT damper, with LSC AND HSC, as well as rebound.
As for the original question I have the rc2 and wouldn't swap it, love being able to adjust for what I need. I find that with full control of the shock you need a more adjustable fork to balance it out, so if you have a 4 way adjustable shock a more adjustable fork makes sense. If you just want to set and run, then stick to fit4.
Only other thing is if you want the qr, as that's fit4 only. Personally I don't find the bolts an issue, but I don't take my wheel off to get it in the car

I'm on a Fit4 34 also.
It's an excellent damper
Old 34's upgraded or the new 34's?
Thanks mnnb. Good luck with the purchase OP.
I have the RC2 without quick release. Just about every ride I have to take the wheel off to get the bike in the car. It really isn't an issue, takes seconds.
It's likely a very expensive option but you can transplant a RC2 damper into a FIT 4 Fork to get a fork with the RC2 Damper and QR15 lowers. It's OE on some bikes like the top end mondraker dune carbon.
Maybe Mojo could help but it wouldn't be cheap.
Thanks for all the advice. I have to decide by tonight and current favourite is the RC2.
I don't like putting the bike in the car anyway and have been meaning to get the bits to convert my roof rack to use on our new car. Hopefully this will give me the inclination to do this and as above its not going to be the end of the world spending a bit more time if I do want to take the wheel out.
I found the company offering a quick release conversion which is always an option

I've been running the 34 FIT4 and while it has been flawless and works very very well, I have missed the tuneability from a Set of 2015 36 RC2's I had. If I was buying again I'd be going to the RC2 Damper. Mainly, so I could adjust HSC a little more and get it bang on!
Check to be certain you get all of the parts included if you go for the RC2. I received my fork today and the 20mm axle skims were missing...

I guess you mean the thin metal shims you install between the dropout? I'm sure you will get them sorted pretty easily. Mine have always included everything.
Thanks again. I am ordering on the way home from work tonight and have decided to definitely go for the RC2. Its a case of want instead of need but my Nomad has always been built with the best I could afford so why change now.
