I think I might have an issue with the fox 32 on my bike.
I noticed I have never got full travel out of the fork since I have had it. I have been playing around with different settings and there has been about 10mm left at the end of every ride.
I thought this was a setup issue but decided today to check i let all the air out of the fork to see if could fully compress the fork.
First thing I noticed was when I let the air out there was some oil come out as well which I assume shouldn't happen? And also the fork would still not fully compress and bottom out with 10mm left.
I just measured the stanchion on my fork and it is 110mm. Is this right as the fork is supposed to be 100mm travel?
I may have misunderstood, but it sounds an awful lot like you're getting 100mm out of your 100mm forks, and they just aren't designed to use all the stanchion...
All sounds normal to me,as long as it wasn't loads of oil spraying out, but then i'm no suspension expert.
Just confused as the stanchions are 110mm long is this normal? I always assumed the stanchions were the same length as the travel?
Totally normal on a fox fork to have more stanchion showing than travel.
Don't know about Fox forks specifically, but everything sounds normal to me.
One thing though is that you normally don't want to be bottoming the forks out except in fairly extreme riding. If you're blowing through all the travel in normal riding then you may have the air pressure too low.
Is the A2C measurement correct?
The air chamber is supposed to have oil in it (3ccs of 29wt Gold), and the stanchions' exposed length is not indicative of the fork's full travel. So everything is normal, keep riding.
As above, that sounds fine to me. All of my old fox forks used to hiss out a bit of oil when you let the air out and they all had more stanchion than travel. 110mm showing on a 100mm fork sounds fine.
Yup, I float fluid is a much lower viscosity than the rockshox grease so you can get a little coming out of a valve on a fox fork.
All the fox tech drawings with axle to crowns are available on their site if you type your fork and wheelsize in.
Yup, normal. I bottomed mine out and the O-ring is about 10mm from the crown.
