Morning all

I'm after some advice on how to remove the lower legs on the above forks without shelling out for the specific Fox tool (£60.)

Has anyone got a handy work around? This is a bit more challenging with the Step Cast fork as the damper/spring assemblies are quite a long way up inside the lowers and not sticking out of the bottom as would be the case on a non Step Cast fork.

Any ideas? Ta in advance.

Which tool? I've got some 32SC and the only unusual thing I used to get the lowers off was one of these, which most folk have lying around somewhere (bit holder for a drill).

Fits over the rebound bit that sticks out. Requires care, obviously.

That works with the 32SC as well does it? I've seen that on a guide for the 34s and wasn't sure it would fit. What did you use to extend it with / manoeuvre it into place?

I may have a faulty memory, but I don't recall it being too bad to get into the recess and have enough sticking out to hit with the hammer. Might have to check though!

Mmm, that wouldn't have been a Step Cast fork then. With the driver on the rebound bits it will be right up inside the fork.

It's definitely a Step Cast.

It's possible I had slightly longer driver to hand, although I've just popped a standard one up inside the recess (without removing the rebound knob) and it makes it to the end, just about. Small fingers help though.

Either way, 2 quid will be better than 30-60..

Deep socket and an extension works (if you dont mind smacking the nut)

You can also drill and tap a bit of tube or bar to make copy of the fox tool.
