Hi, I have the above fork and did have the CTD remote option setup but I have now taken it off as I recently discovered water had got past the seal on the fork top (the bit that rotates when using the remote) and I had a few teaspoons of water in the topcap of the fork. I dont know how long it had been like this bit it seemed like a bad thing, especially if it managed to seep past the seals on the adjustment shaft etc and get into the main body of the fork. Also the return spring had started to show some rust (even though it was well greased).
I did like the remote but this issue has put me off (hence returning back to the original on fork adjuster) - am I worrying over nothing , is this a not so good design - anyone else had this sort of experience? Any comments and thoughts welcome (hope I have explained it well enough)
I don't think there's any improvement over sealing with the manual lever assembly
My experience is that there is and if you look at the design of both there is a clear difference in the way the "on fork" interfaces compared to the remote option. That's my experience anyway.
Are you missing a seal on the remote assembly? All my fit4 remotes have a blue weather seal on the lockout dial whereas non of my manual assemblies have a seal at all and seem to rely on 'shiplap' for keeping the elements out.
Does your interface differ over a washer, a circlip covering the ident spring and bb with and a bolt holding the lever in place?
I've not had a problem with either through normal use/care.
Hi, no it had the seals in place (two if I remember) but they never were that tight a seal (I guess because it has to rotate and spring back) anyway it seems they are not reall up to the job. I didnt know I had a problem until I needed to redo the cable and in doing so discovered water in there, otherwise its not something you would ever know was happening. At least with the manual assembly it is easier to check and the overlap with the blue CTD adjust lever and the black trail mode adjust dial seems to be enough to keep water our in normal use.
Its never jet washed just bucket, sponge and garden hose to rinse off.
