Looking some some reviews from people that have them. Are they worth the price tag? Im looking at either these or 'the one's. To go onto a transition covert for riding thats best described as enduro type riding I guess. Got some ORO's (180/160 rotors) on at the moment & seem to be lacking abit of power towards the end of the downs. Am I gonna see alot of bang for my buck if I stump up the cash and get the R1's?

Cheers all.

Yes. They work very well. Pretty hard to justify over your alternate options unless you're a hardcore weight weenie though.

Have "the Ones" on both my bikes and frankly find them fantastic. A few people have tried them and commented that perhaps there s too much power, but I think you get used to what you have.
Paid £279 a pair from a guy on eBay from France, great service given and at a price no-one else seems to be able to come close to. He was selling R1's too..

Can't help with R1's, but I have RX on one bike which are similar, and TH1 on another, both with 180/160 rotors.

For complete AM/DH tomfoolery I found the RX lacking just a bit even with 200/180 rotors, hence the purchase of TH1's. I tried the TH1's with 180/160 and it's all I need on my big bike. Fabulous brakes and not much heavier than R1's. Some riders report that TH1's are grabby but I don't find that... My Hope V2's were grabby though!

For me on my hardtail the RX (and by assumption R1) are spot on, but for a bigger bike taking on big mountains I would go TH1.

My tuppence worth...

I have run Formulas for many years, Oros at first and lately I have swapped to RXs which have a bit more power and handle trips to the Alps etc without a hitch. I love the R1s and they are my 1st choice but cost is an issue whereas RXs can be had very resonably.

As for performance I have found that RXs are faultless but some find they lack power compared to the competition but I disagree, I think it is the smooth modulation that gives that impression, they are not grabby but the power comes in smoothly in response to the power you use at the lever, I only single finger brake by he way. So RXs are great and once fitted you can forget them.

R1s are different as I don't forget them I actively enjoy them, blooming brillant, all of the above but just a bit better and super lightweight.

One issue that I have run across when talking to people on the trails is that the very odd R1 set up judders or vibrates horribly under braking, they report that no matter what they do they can't resolve the issue. This is very rare as in 4 people out of hundreds.

One last thing, I have never had to bleed a set of Formulas... been riding them for years and do a lot of riding, mostly at the more extreme end.

As an aside, does anyone know whether the Formula 2-piece centrelock rotors are available without the caliper mounting bracket? Google not being enlightening

R1's are one of the main reasons I got my 2010 Zesty 514, incredible brakes, I lost a few lever bolts though.

Have owned (to compare to) Hope mini, Avid Juicy, Elixir, Oro 18, Oro24, Mega's.

Just got a pair of "The ones" for my bigger bike.
