Need a new cone for a formula hub - the ones that come with CAADX wheels. Does anyone know if these sort of spares are readily available?
In the interim the LBS gave me a cone out of the spares box that looks a reasonable match and does up OK - not ridden it anywhere though. Is this likely to work as a bodge or does the cup / cone interface need to be absolutely spot on?
They’re precision machined parts, and loose cones cause bearing failure along with general hub destruction. That said, I was under the impression that there was a relatively limited range of angles in use, so if it fits then see how it runs. If it spins well and loads properly so there’s no float then you’re probably fine. Formula hubs aren’t exactly rare, so maybe the LBS has actually given you a Formula spare by the magic of the spare Parts bucket?
